Can Anyone Explain What is Wrong With This Trim Piece?

I'm looking at a new to me truck online with at CarMAx. For now the car is a three hour drive from me but i have a question regarding odd markings on a trim piece It appears the trim piece that surrounds the radio/climate controls has some lines running through it and they don't appear to be straight or evenly spaced. Has anyone seen this before? Is it a manufacturing defect like when the clear coat on some trim pieces on my Porsche developed micro-cracking? (BTW Porsche replaced those for free even though the car was two years old) Or did a prior owner try to "customize" it like a three year old would customize something? It looks terrible and the piece will certainly have to be replaced. This is on a 2018 Ram Laramie Limited. Other than this piece of trim the truck looks pretty good.

If it's a Laramie Limited, then it is a wood grain trim piece.

It's just a dark wood trim piece. It is not anything anyone tried to do themselves.

Hmm. I certainly hope it looks better in person because that photo does it ZERO justice.

The Limited trims have dark wood trim pieces. If you have pictures of the interior available, look at the door trim panels and the steering wheel it will show the dark wood grain trim.

After almost 4 years of owning 5th gens, it's strange how dated the 4th gen interiors look to me now. When 5th gens first came out I really didn't think the interiors looked that much different than the 4th gen I had at the time.

To be fair, the picture posted above your post looks to have a cheesy aftermarket 90s style wood dash installed. My 2017 looked like this:

Although even with the less fake wood in my 2017, my 2021 absolutely does blow it away all around and in quality of materials. Less than a year in on my first 5th gen but enjoying it very much.

I looked at the picture in Post #1 the other day & i thought something was wrong in the picture.

Today i looked at it again, someone was using some kind of artificial light to get a good image & it distorted the image

If your use to Porsche you will hate these. Check out the Ridgeline.
I thought about getting a smaller truck but my wife really likes the room in the Crew Cab. I’ll look at a Ridgeline since I’ve never been in one.

If you look closely in the top right hand side at the original picture 1st post, it looks to me to have the protective plastic film on it, that should just peel off to see how it really looks. It looks as thought it is slightly peeled off on the corner.

If you're asking me, no. If you look at the photo the plastic piece that surrounds the climate controls and the tow/haul buttons, and etc, has evenly spaced, rough looking horizontal lines that run left to right. It looks like cracking in the plastic piece. I was wondering if that is how the piece is supposed to look or if the PO did something to make it look like that. Because it looks terrible.

That was the desired effect. As others have mentioned, it may not look as bad from other angles. It's trivial to change if you don't like it.

If you are referring to the highlighted area pictured below, then you probably don’t want to be looking at limiteds. Those lines represent the wood grain, and is exactly how it’s supposed to look. There are pieces like that on the door panels, and the top half of the steering wheel is like thatFEF0B8CA-CA1A-4336-9D2D-C797083AF02A.jpeg
