I think at this point I will be doing it just to prove it can be done, Ha!
Yea I gotcha. As far as I know I’m still the only one running a stand-alone pwm controller. If you get this working I’ll have to swap up. I have the 2016 pwm fan off the eco diesel sitting in my garage.

I am running a pwm module and controlling the v6 fan on my truck.

Too bad that PWM controller could output the control signal to run the V6/EcoD fan directly. That module controls the voltage/current going to the fan, the factory fans already have that built in. The EcoD fan draws too much current for that controller.

They make a few models up to 200 amp output. And yea I wish. I emailed them if they would do testing On a fan if I sent then one and make a module for it but I never received a reply. They replied to all my other questions I had so I’m assuming the email got lost in cyberspace.

I have a question since I haven’t looked into it much. I know the eco diesel fan motor is designed differently. It’s actually brushless and runs on an outside bell instead of an inside stator which is part of the reason it’s such a huge gain and higher cfm flow. The motor is quite a huge power increase over the v6 fan due to that characteristic in itself. Has anyone opened the motor up to see if it’s possible to get at the wiring and run the motor off of a separate brushless controller or is it to self contained since it has its own pwm module built in?

This is my swap I did on it yesterday, the Dorman assembly with my my cooling fan motor installed in it with the bigger 3.7 fan blade bolted to my motor, this can’t be done with the TYC, too bad the shroud was cracked!

As far as I know the eco diesel is higher amperage but all the PWM fans have their own control module built in, the computer just triggers it.

Yea I’m aware of that. I’m just curious if it’s possible to bypass the built in controller or remove it completely and run a stand-alone controller

That's beyond my knowledge capacity, but anything can be done, I would prefer the PCM to control it like factory.

I actually had a Pentastar fan when I had my 2016 and I disassembled it, the motor is brushless and is basically 3-phase AC motor.

Yes that much I know. I’ve done a bit of research. I know there was someone who made a controller for the jeeps to use the Jeep eco diesel fan but it wasn’t compatible with the rams and they had to swap the tipm for a unit that came out of a Jeep with an eco diesel or it would not work due to how the sensors were read and communicated to the computer to control the pwm signal

I have a 2014 that I also removed the clutch fan and I am using the stock V8 efan without any issues. I also took the shutters out of my grille and now my truck always stays around 185 coolant temp and the fan hardly ever comes one. I would recommend trying this before spending money on a different fan.
Just wondering, any special tips on making this work? I.e. capping fan clutch shaft from the water pump? also heard guys say a tune was needed to reset temps? Thanks in advance.

did you manage to connect the internal fan from 3.6 to PCM via port 82 and HP tuners programming?

I think there’s a way to do it through Alfaobd but not sure anybody tried it yet. I don’t think the hp tuners can adjust the setting for what fan is installed.
