At Onan, ethanol fuel would not store for even 6 months. It is not a horror story. It is a fact.
Have you tried using stabilizers for ethanol gas like Lucas Fuel Stabilizer, start-tron or Sta-bil? I learned from talking to workers at an ethanol plant I lived near in IA that ethanol starts spoiling once it makes contact with air, the rail cars they load ethanol into are not air tight, so depending on where it gets shipped to can sit in a rail car 2 or more weeks all the while going bad and the way it gets mixed at the load doc the amount of Ethanol in each delivery to a gas station can very 2% or more...

Yes, that was mandatory. I'm talking about the early days of state mandates. Even with stabilizers they'd only last a year or so, while pure gas would store for 2.

Cenex usually offers non ethanol gas of all grades. Wisconsin law also doesn't allow to put into cars and trucks, but nobody checks, if that's your thing. I don't have any issue with 10% ethanol for my on-road vehicles since we go through enough gas not to cause storage issues.

My small engines are entirely different. The small 4 stroke engines get non ethanol 87 octane (low compression ratios need lower octane to burn cleanly), the 2 strokes get 91 octane non ethanol (required by manufacturers).

I had property in Hayward I've since sold, a nice big Cenex there. This spring I think I'll fill my dolly jug at the Cenex in Hudson across the border with 87 octane non ethanol. Cenex was Top Tier at one time, don't know if it is now. Regardless, I always add Stabil to my annual dolly gas because it lasts all year.
That's WI law? There are quite a few stations around me that the premium is ethanol free and nary a sign about usage in sight.

Are you sure on this law? Last I heard Wisconsin doesn't technically even mandate that ethanol be added at all, it's more or less left up to more localized legislation.

It's posted at the Cenex in Hayward. Perhaps enforcement is nonexistent, as I posited?

All I can find in WI statutes are about labeling and dispensing, nothing about use.

That's all I know. Just reporting what I saw with my own eyes.
MAYBE there's something to that with the higher octane "recreational" or "race" gas but I have serious doubts that the non-ethanol 85/87/88 levels are illegal for street vehicle use. For the record though, I wouldn't use 85 in any of my engines unless it was specifically called for.

They ARE ILLEGAL in Minnesota. The pumps are so marked.

you can get it in oklahoma. whenever I'm in Ardmore I fill up with it. If they sold it around here I would run it in one of my bikes that is carbureted . I have to replace a couple o'rings in the carb every year because they disappear during a years time.

And so is real beer. Just a couple reasons that Minnesota sucks. But we were talking Wisconsin. ;-P

I thought they got rid of that with the great Sunday Liquor Store opening?

The great social experiment, Prohibition, is coming back. Just that petroleum will be replacing alcohol.

Could be. It's actually been a good many years since I've been to the land of 10,000 kind of lakes.
