My lifted MegaCab, on it's best day, barely broke above 15.1 over the highway. But, that is a totally different beast than what you are looking at.

It all depends on the state of tune on the truck. I suspect that it will probably needs plugs (all 16 of 'em), the throttle body cleaned and the EGR valve replaced. Those three items really really help HEMI mileage.

Good luck!

Superchip and other tuners offer a better gas mileage tune. It improved my 4.7L about 2MPG on optimal conditions.

Mine is halfway paid over a 4 months period already...

I can get 17~18 on the highway at 65MPH. Mine is a 4x4 QC long Bed. A QCSB with a Hemi would be lighter and gets better MPG than my 4.7L as it has an easier time moving this brick...

If I can stay on the highway and there's not a bunch of hills and stuff, I've gotten 20.5 mpg. All stock except for a S&B intake. Not too bad for a quad cab 4wd 5.7. It's all in your driving technique

Same here.
Quad Cab, 4x4, wide tires, 5.7L

I average 14-15 in the summer - I have a 93OCT Hevi Fever tune with MDS turned off. Before that I was getting 16-18mpg before the HF tune install.

Before the tune I was getting 21mpg on the highway with ONLY straight highway driving. I know this because I had to drive about 2 hours one way for a week and a half for orientation through my job. I got 21mpg.

In the winter I get 11-12 mpg. I do too much idling but it gets really stinking cold up here.

@ OP: Perhaps.. if you have the feeling that you need to fret over the mpg the RAM isn't for you :)

But, you will be missing out on a heck of a truck.

In PA $18k will not come close to a 2010.

Paid $16k for my 2006 and everyone is surprised and says it's a good deal.
Seriously if you go to the lots the average price for an early 3rd Gen is about $14k. After 2006 they get pricey quick.

I plan on retiring to FL in 6 yrs. I was thinking about buying a new truck to tow all of my wifes ... stuff... down with but if there is a huge difference between the prices I would maybe be better off to either wait or buy one when I take my camper down with my current truck. We'll see.

BTW, I don't recall feldman28 ever disclosing what engine it had in it?

Wow crazy price differential, I paid 6k for my 2005 quad hemi SLT. Yeah dont think feldman mentioned the engine, maybe its a hemi.

Here's a link to a 2010 1500 selling for 18k in Miami:

It says hemi in the first post...

DOH!

And to beat it all I looked TWICE! I wasn't looking for "HEMI" though. I was looking for the "L".

My mistake.

@Swarz
$6k will get you a late 90's model Chevy around here :D

I say skip the bully dog and go with a trinity of some kind. It's well with the flexibility offered.
