I would like to install a 1000 watt inverter to the alternator and run the cable into the bed. Has anyone done this? Any risk to the alternator? Is the alternator thermally protected? Thanks.

Depending on how close the battery and inverter will be, you will need 4 - 8 gauge wire for the 12 volt side. Don't skimp on the 12 volt wire gauge and solder or high pressure crimp the ends to the cable.

watch a couple of these videos

Thanks…..do you know if the inverter will draw power if the engine is off? I would like the inverter to stop if the car is off because I’m connecting a lithium all-in-one battery unit to it (Bluetti 200P) and don’t want it drawing power if the truck is not running.

I am not too familiar with electronics

I would assume that by using in line fuses, relays & switches, you can control it.
Personally, i would have someone else do it for me

I was 9 or 10 before my father built our first TV from a kit
There were no big box stores yet.
I remember going into large tent in New Jersey, they had one tv & there was a big crown standing around it

That would depend on the inverter but more than likely bit won't. You will need to wire in a relay or solenoid to turn the power off going to the inverter. Depending on the efficiency of the inverter it will draw in the neighborhood of 100 amps at full load from the battery so be sure the wiring, relays and solenoid are sized correctly.
