so the hemi is dying and in need of MAJOR rebuild/replacement. So I am looking at 2 options; 1- remove my engine take it in have it rebuilt basically stock with hardened valve seats for about 3k but I have to do r&r
2- get a rebuildable hemi that will work for my year and take it in and have them to some fun better performing parts for unknown cost but the truck is not down for now. What do you all think? Also the truck is a driver/tow truck what can should I look into? Any other suggestions to go with this option

If you get another engine at least you can keep driving what you got until your done with the rebuild process or until the old engine dies.

You could contact Moe's performance and see what options you have if you want to upgrade parts. Your trans is the weak point if decide to add significant HP.

Just curious, how many miles are on it and what is wrong with it?

230000ish as it is still driven everyday and we believe lost a lobe on the cam won’t know completely till it’s torn down. I have looked into jasper engines but they are pricey with not a much better warranty they also want me to pay a shop to do the r&r and that would make it over 7k for a stock engine. As far as the tranny goes the plan was to have randy of Randy’s Transmission build it for me

Boost, its a tough decision. Cheap is cheap in the long run.

Can you not just replace the cam shafts and lifters? Good time for a performance upgrade!

From what I understand the material has most likely done bad things such as take out bearings rings and cylinder walls

Get it thoroughly inspected first.

Usually, cam lobe/lifter wears is gradual and the wear material should be picked up by the oil filter. From my experience, my older mk4 vw tdi would have cam wear and lifter wear usually due to improper oil type. A simple timing belt job with a new camshaft and 12lifters is all that is needed.

I would do a compression test and have a tech visually scope the each cylinder wall. Sinking 7-8 grand is quite steep on a 2012 truck with over 200k.

Burla and other oil addicts all suggest 5w30 PUP or RL for the added protection.
