I personally would get either a Cummins or a Duramax. Yes IFS shouldn't be on heavy duty trucks but for $100 and an hour of work you can put 1.5" sleeves on and never have to worry about doing the Chevy dance. The 06-07s are virtually problem free aside from tranny cooler lines up front until you start adding over 100hp. Dad's 2005 Duramax runs like a ***** ape tho it runs at 1100 degrees on the interstate when tandeming the camper and boat.

To be on topic tho, get the 2500, v10 will probably be cheaper in the long run and itll be fun too.

I'd say go for a 2500 with the 5.9 360 with nv4500 5 speed.....I have an extended cab 1500 with 2500 power train and 4.56 gear axles.....I haven't hauled nothing with the 5 speed but it pulled stuff most People put behind a Cummins with no issues when it was an automatic.
