So, I have a 2014 Ram 1500 that someone swapped an older radio into. SiriusXM shows it as a 2013 2500. In any case, the UConnect site says that I can get the 18.45.01 software on the radio, but if I have the 16.13.13 software version, it needs to be done at the dealership. The dealer wants $100 to do it, which I think is robbery, especially since the truck will be sitting in the shop for other work soon, so it's not much time actually spent on the upgrade. I'm assuming that I wan't getting any previous updates, since the radio isn't what they think is in the truck, and I'll need an intermediate update to be able to install 18.45.01.

Has anyone else upgraded their trucks from the 16.X.X versions, and still have their updates around to share with me? I want to try to update it myself before I drop $100 at the dealer. This would need to be the VP3/RA3 version of the software, so for the radios that didn't originally come with NAV.

Thanks!

I know from reading the posts in this group that getting updates for radios from other vehicles can be a nightmare.I'd go the dealer route and pray that they even they can do it

It seems like the answer, in these cases, is to upgrade to 17.something first, THEN to 18.45.01.

I was able to get a hold of a copy of MY13 17.11.07 RA3/VP3 from a trusted source, but I cant test it myself since I dont have an MY13 unit.

The other possible reason for "see dealer" is because older units might run into issues with the Sierra Wireless card during the update(s). Its not a software issue, but rather something that goes bad with the hardware over time. Older (2013-2014) units seem to have this issue the most, but it is not a guarantee that they will ALL have the issue.

@damnimcooltom the actual 18.45.01 update is universal for all model years. We have the RA3 version of it (post 3 in this thread: https://www.ramforum.com/threads/ro...sw-update-13-17-ra3-vp3-na-ra4-vp4-na.150150/), so you could technically try the update yourself. There have been a few people that have tried to go from 16.x all the way to 18.45.01 and I think some it worked fine, others had issues with a "model year mismatch" error from the software. Not quite sure the ryhme or reason there, but the fix was to go to 17.something first, then to 18.45.01

Do you still have that MY13 laying around to share?

The 18.45.01 update went smoothly, and was noticeably quicker than the 17.11.07. The 17.11.07 wiped out my SiriusXM presets, so I had to redo them. Other than that, things seem to be normal.

I have the 18.45.01 update running in my 15 Challenger, now. I'll have to check my wife's Jeep when she's home.

Thanks again for your help.

I have the same issue. Do you still have the 17.11.07 software? I have an appointment with the dealer but not until next week. Would much rather do it myself. Im on 16.13.13

Yeah, if you have the VP3, and 16.13.13, chrisbh17 can hook you up. Let me know if you have any problems. It went smoothly for me. It does take about 45 minutes, and most suggest that you have the truck running during the update. I lost my radio presets, and the backup camera was washed out after the update. The stereo sounded a lot better after the update, so that was cool.

After the 18.45.01 update, I had to reset the radio to factory defaults to get the backup camera working correctly again. After that, I reset my radio presets, re-synced my phone, and went through the settings to get them how I liked, but over-all, it was a noticeable improvement. And, even though I never use it, the NAV should work correctly after the Nov 3 GPS rollover.

Thank you! Yes I have downloaded it now and can't wait to try it out. Did you get your camera to work again?

I ran into that with some incorrect versions. The one he gave you was specifically for the VP3 radios in Rams and Jeeps, I believe. If you have a radio that came from the factory with NAV, or maybe a radio from a car, it wouldn't work. Also, it was for model year 13 radios. What year is your truck?

His seems like an odd duck, we cant find a screen that actually shows the head unit part number.

I think its been replaced once (by the dealer) so I have a feeling the head unit in there now is not necessarily a 2013 unit, which means we might need the 2014 or 2015 version of 17.11.07.

I know this post is kinda old but figured I would give it a shot. I just got a 13 ram 1500 and ran into the same problem updating uconnect from 16.13.13 to 18.45.01. Would anyone be willing to share the 17.11.07 so I can try to step up to 18.45?

RA4 (with factory nav) or RA3 (without factory nav, possibly enabled separately later)?

Anything prior to 18.45.01 is model year and radio model specific. The files are linked from this thread:

Please let us know via private message if you decide to have your dealer look into this. We would like to have this documented and have a case escalated in your behalf so a Case Specialist can work with your dealer to update your system.
