I'm trying to find a used muffler for my 5.7, and there is a Flowmaster 40 for sale, 2.5" SI/SO. If I use a reducer on each side, keeping the pipes 3", would the increase in friction loss be offset by the higher flowing muffler? I can be patient and wait if it won't, but it's just down the street from me for $30, barely used. Anyone know how that would affect my airflow?

There are 2 for sale, so another option would be a 3" to 2.5" wye and roll with 2 mufflers 2.5" pipe.

For a few dollars more and less effort you can have a new Magnaflow muffler that will flow better and be better suited for your truck. The amount you save on the muffler will be eaten up with the cost of the reducers and welding them on.

Summitracing Chambered mufflers, basicaly a Flowmaster under a different name and alot cheaper. Both of these are 3" in and 3" out but off set. If your doing a single muffler there is room for the offset.

They make other sizes as well for the in/out just need to figure out what size and style you want.

Sweet, I saw those but had no idea on quality, but I started adding up parts, and the straight thru with stock resonator is probably best for now; just need a straight pipe and clamps so more likely to happen. Amazon has Prime free shipping on a variety of Dynomax, Magnaflow and similar mufflers, so back to the search...

Does Summit offer a muffler with a similar sound to the flowmaster 70 series? I'm looking for quieter interior sound but still some grunt when getting on it.
