Hi All. I've got a 2004 1500 4x4 with the 5.7L Hemi, 176K miles. It's been the best truck ever for me, except....
Last weekend, when making a right hand turn onto my street, it stalled. Tried to start it, it would crank but would not fire. Got it towed the last 75 yards to the house, then whipped out my basic code scanner. P0340, cam sensor. Replaced, cranks but still no firing. P0340 again. I read on a forum that the stall issue related to the EGR valve in the same system as the cam sensor, so I replace that too. Same CBSNF, P0340. I replaced the crank sensor finally, and now it cranks, and fires for just a second after about 3-4 seconds of cranking. It seems to want to run, but when it fires at the end, it dies out. But no code now. I smell fuel, but I have not checked the relay yet. I will check the cam sensor wiring, as I understand that is an ongoing issue, but the lack of a code now is baffling. Should I disconnect the battery? BTW, it was showing 12.1-12.2V, which seems low to me. I'll put the battery on the charger tomorrow to make sure it's topped off. Battery is 18 month old Odyssey. I have a multimeter, but I need to know where to search.

Coudn't hurt to try it and see.

It may be stuck in a form of limp mode and clearing the computer could well get it all working again.

Just remember to remove the ground for about 5 minutes minimum, then hook it back up and see what happens.

I say 5 minutes because I have known some computers to be a bit stubborn about clearing out at times, depending on the exact vehicle in question - Normally it's only about a minute you'd wait before hooking ground back up but I also like to be sure I'm not wasting time doing something several times instead of just once and done if that's going to do it.

Static/sitting battery voltage should be around 12.5v's or so, I'd charge it before clearing the computer so that's out of the way too when you try it.

Good luck!

Try the search utility in the upper-right corner. There are many threads on this topic.

I've searched out the other posts; I seem to have an oddball situation where the codes have cleared, it fires , but will not maintain.

If it were me, I would pursue this fault as though the original DTC was still present, provided the features are still supporting that approach.

Until you see another DTC, what else have you got?
