Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and have a possibly stupid question. I've searched the web and forums for hours, but haven't even come close to any answers. Judging from all the hate I've found in my research, this may throw a lot of people into a rage, but he'd actually like to see if it's possible to convert his 2010 T-style shift to a dial shift like the one in my 2015 sport. The only thing I've seen about a swap is a column swap, which is better than the console shift but he's stuck on trying to do a dial swap. Is this at all possible? I know there's going to be people in here saying trade it in, the 8 speed is better anyway, and he'd love to, but he's not financially able to at the moment. Any help you guys could offer would be greatly appreciated! I just want to help him fall in love with his Ram again!

Possible? With enough time and money I’m sure it is. However it’s not practical. One transmission is shifted via a cable while the other is completely electronic.

Buy a wrecked 2014 with the 8 speed and transfer everything from the transmission/driveshaft/ complete dash assembly/steering column / steering wheel / pcm / plus all related sensors and he can have the dial shifter and 8 speed tranny in his 2010,probably cheaper to just buy a truck with the 8 speed though, lol

lol yeah that's a lot of work just to clean up the center console and change the shifter. I'll have to let him down gently. Before I do, is there anything else that can be done as far as a shifter conversion? I know I saw a post that someone did a column shift before, and he had a pretty good write up, but the links to the pictures were dead. Any ideas would be appreciated! Thank you!

He could probably find somebody who would trade his console shifter for a column shifter, that'd be his cheapest option, but he'd also lose his console and have to settle for the 3rd seat option, plus he needs the dash parts from the donor truck. But my question is why,if he ever goes to trade the truck off or sell it,the console shifter is usually a selling option.Try to let him down easy, lol
