HI I have a 2012 Ram 2500 HD 5.7 Hemi ~260k miles. I noticed that the oil level keeps going low. I did an oil change 100 miles ago where I drained the oil, changed the filter and added 7qts of oil. Today the oil was below the safe zone so I added a qt to get it back in the safe zone. Before the oil change, I saw the low oil light come on when accelerating which prompted me to change the oil to ensure the proper level and to check everything out. I do not see any oil leaks and the coolant looks clean and does not show signs of oil. This makes me think I am burning oil or it is going out the exhaust somehow. When the truck gets warm and then idles for a bit, there is a hazy cloud surrounding the truck from the exhaust. Other than the check engine codes and the missing oil, the truck runs strong in my opinion and seems very peppy compared to my 2012 ram 1500 with the 4.7 motor in it. I also noticed that the truck exhaust leaves a black spot/trail where the exhaust gas hits the ground. I have included the codes below and pictures of the black spots on the ground. In the close up one you can see it looks like black granules and is not a liquid. This weekend I was planning to try to swap the coil pack on cylinder 2 to another cylinder to test the coil pack and the wire and spark plug. But I am not sure if this is where I should start as I do not understand if that would be causing the missing oil.

Buddy, I think that thing is done trying and gave up the ghost.

Pull #2 plugs and see if they’re oil fouled.

Check PCV and intake manifold for oil accumulation.

Verify actual oil pressure with a mechanical gauge, especially with those oil pressure codes.

Compression and leak-down tests, but if it’s just the oil-control rings that are stuck or worn, you wouldn’t necessarily have low compression or excessive leak-down.
That’s where I’d start anyways, while looking for a replacement engine…

My 2012 2500 5.7 has 230k on it burns 1.5 quarts every 4 hour trip half of it is the valve styem seals I know they are bad thats the main cause for smoke on high mileage 5.7 and 4.7 engines but at 260k man just go on facebook or find a junk yard swap that engine. Or you keep putting plugs and oil in it until she locks up and then swap it also maybe put some 10w40 oil into it as well thicken things up it will burn a little slower.
