I came across a guy parting out a ‘12 Ram 1500 that has the stock Alpine touchscreen audio with it. I have a ‘12 myself but with the traditional stereo with the volume knob on the left and station knob on the right, but I’m wanting to swap it out for the Alpine if it will work. Anyone have any experience with this or can help provide insight on if it’s possible and how difficult it would be?

My feeling is that it would be more trouble than it is worth since you would also need the factory amp which runs over the Canbus. Also, I believe that the speakers in the Alpine system are a different impedance than the regular ones.

You would be better off swapping in an aftermarket touch screen like Kenwood, Pioneer or maybe Alpine. Use the iDatalink to keep any current steering wheel controls.

The best thing about those stock stereo’s are the hard drive. That’s the only reason why I still have mine and haven’t gone aftermarket.
