My 2012 hemi has done this maybe twice in the last few years but recently occurs almost daily. While coming to a stop on a service road, about 30-40mph and lightly on the breaks, the engine dies out. I’m able to throw it in neutral and it fires right up. Fuel level is never below 1/4 tank, so it’s not fuel starvation. Brake booster was replaced a year ago with an OEM part so I doubt it’s a vacuum issue. Truck runs fine other than the hemi tick. Has 237,000 miles on it. Any ideas?

Fuel pump Relay ?
Or corrosion around the TIMP socket
You didn’t mention any codes did you scan the OBD2 port?

If you used the same hose off the brake booster it may look fine on the outside.

Does the engine cut out when you stop at stop lights/signs and sometimes won’t start after starting moments before. Say going in a store and coming out and no start?

No present code but a pending code of P0420 which I don’t think would be related. The booster hose was reused and seemed to be in good condition. It hasn’t happened with aggressive braking- just like slowing down to a stoplight with my mom in the truck8F03B6A4-E612-4E9D-A7F6-7CECC392D900.jpeg

It hasn’t cut out if I’m already stopped. Only when I’m stopping and going 30-20 mph. I’ve never had a problem with it starting back up or starting in general. It’s like when the transmission is downshifting while stopping the RPM’s just fall to zero.

The https://www.obd-codes.com/p0420
is not likely your stalling problem
Read about it anyway

Check your trans fluid level. Too low and the torque converter sticks in lockup mode and wont release when you slow down.

This sounds like what is happening but the fluid level is spot on.

Do some Data logging.
This is the frame before stalling, two frames with the engine stalled, and the last is the engine running again. Shows I was going 29mph when it stalled out and RPM's dropped to 0.

I’ve noticed it’s happening only in the first few minutes of the truck running. Although it did happen once after the truck was already warm so I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily a cold start related issue.

Does anyone see anything in the logged data that means something?

Just happened again. Coolant temp was 194 so cold start theory is out. It was within the first few minutes of starting the truck after getting some take out. Still happened while slowing down on an access road going approximately 30mph.

Have you checked the inside of the throttle body bore and butterfly valve?

If dirty, it will not permit enough airflow at idle (when you lift your foot from the accelerator pedal), and can cause a stall - even with the vehicle moving.

If dirty, clean the inside with spray throttle body cleaner.

UPDATE:

Along with experiencing the above problems I began having severe battery drainage. Swapped out my Optima Yellow Top twice due to voltage being too low for my charger to even recognize the battery.

THE FIX!

Fuel pump relay malfunctioning. Pump was staying on even with the key out of the ignition. Found this through tons of troubleshooting and stumbled upon this YouTube Video:

I bought the TIPM Plug-In Relay System (Lite) and installed it on Saturday. Their website states all the other problems I was experiencing due to a faulty relay. No problems since and I haven’t connected it to the battery charger since installation.

Took more time to unpackage than the actual installation. Hope this helps some of you!
