2012 Ram Radio Upgrade Question.

Ok, I found a factory touch screen radio on marketplace. 100 bucks. My aux went out and so local radio is awful. I cant play my music from iTunes. I am trying to figure out if anyone has successfully unlocked one using eBay. I don't want to have to deal with the dealership as everything I am reading says if it wasn't from the original owner they wont give it to you. I can't pick it up until Tuesday or Wednesday, but I just wanted to have a game plan. Also is it just plug and play once you get the code? I found this one on eBay and the video showed it worked. First picture is of what I found. The second one is what I have now. It does have satellite radio if that makes any difference.

Like I told you in the DM’s (repeating for others who might need similar help) you need to find out if your trucks year make and model is a Low-Speed Canbus unit or a High-Speed Canbus unit, then compare it to the new radio you want to buy, they must match. If you truck is a low speed Canbus truck then you need to buy a low-speed Canbus version of the radio. A lot of Chrysler vehicles share radios across many years and models and a lot of other vehicle radios will work in Rams. On sites like eBay, for example, the RBZ radio marked “Ram RBZ” might sell for $200 more then the “Town & Country RBZ Radio” but they are the same exact radio so long as your trucks Canbus speed matches the “donor” vehicles Canbus speed.

Here is an amazing site that outlines what make/model/year has what speed Canbus radios and you can pretty much figure out what works with what.

I just read on google that by 2010-12 are high speed across the board. This one is supposedly coming out of a 2012 as well. Thank you for the link. I found another one for 80 bucks same radio. I am going to check its number out. Thank you again.

@OnSale One more question. So I can tell after watching a pretty good video that the radio is a RBZ. The problem I see is that I cant seem to find out what it came out of. Its odd. It says MIC on the left top button and all RBZ radios from 08-12 show it to have the second picture. I have looked across the board at makes and models.

That top one looks like it might be an aftermarket offering. All OEM Mygigs have the three letter code on the AUX panel, and I've never seen an OEM Mygig with a MIC button. Any 2009 1500 only and 2010 - 2012 1500-3500 are plug and play.

jaws is right, that is not an oem RBZ radio. Tons of company’s sell aftermarket replicas that are slightly different.

If it is coming out of a Ram, then 09-10 will not work in the 11-12 Rams. But, certain gear Durango’s, Nitro’s, 300’s, Town & Country’s, etc. will work in the 11-12 Rams if it is also a High-Speed Canbus. Search eBay for RBZ Radio and you will see what is compatible with what. Most sellers got it down really well what works with what. For example, I used a Town & Country RBZ in my 2012 Ram and even tho it came from a T&C when I started it up it showed the Ram logo as it recognized my vehicle.

I really think that I am going to pass on this one and try and locate one from LKQ or something I know will work. I almost jumped on it. I am glad they were out of town. Ill pass on it and continue to look for one. They are all over marketplace. The 100 price tag sparked my interest.

So I ended up taking a chance on the radio. Fired right up, plug and play no code needed. Well we have had almost a month of rain. Its been bad. When I originally hooked it up. "in advanced autoparts parking lot" the yellow plug for sirius wouldn't work. Every time I have pulled it apart to try and get it hooked up, I get half way in and it starts raining. So today I decided to try again. I got the plug hooked up and no sirius option and I read in another thread this will also run the navi? Is this correct? It raining currently I had to button it up fast. I tried for maybe 2 minutes to figure it out and navi on the screen is there, its just not letting me into it. It has a SD card slot, but I really don't want to go that route as I need to be able to access any address when I need to.

Does the radio run an Android OS? Just a wild guess here - but I know some of the aftermarket radios are set up run the nav maps off of the SD card, such as iGO. No card = no maps.

I learned the hard way with a 2012 Ram. If you look at listings for Android head units most of them will say 2009-2011 even though the 12 looks the same, same plugs. There was a change made to the can bus in the 2012. The 2012 is different in some way. They are finicky. I had to mess with the can bus settings in the system of the radio to get it to work.
Still never figured out what the differences were but the head unit did work after messing with it but was super glitchy.
Wouldn’t turn on. Wouldn’t stay on after the key was turned off. The factory radio would stay on for 15 seconds unless you opened the door.
