I have a 2014 Ram 1500 that I plan on adding to, to improve daily drive-ability both with MPG and alittle extra horsepower (for play). Im planning on installing an after market cold air intake (K&N) and exhaust(Flowmaster Outlaw series). I been researching different programmers to top off everything. but am stumped. Diablo tuner seem to be the number recommended tuner. but I see reports of gauge lights staying on and or gauge lights flicking after the vehicle is turned off. I like the idea of an on the fly unit but it is not necessary. I would like some feed back on what yall think about so tuner for my application. Diablo, Superchip, Edge, and what models yall perfer.

I'd highly recommend a Diablosport programmer and make the the model you select accommodates custom tunes. The I3 and new Predator 2 are compatible with your truck. So is the Trinity but it is more expensive so if you don't need the monitor with configurable gauge package, then select one of the first two mentioned.

Again, make sure it's a model that will accommodate custom tunes. It's easy to see which ones are on the Diablosport website.

We have vendors here who can hook you up with a package including the programmer and a custom tune for a great price. Contact Matt at Moe's Performance or Sean at Hemifever Tuning.

There are no "shift on the fly" programmers available for gas powered trucks. That's a diesel only application.

Don't know what folks are complaining about unless it's the fact that the standard tune package provided by Diablosport did not include trans tuning. So, since it doesn't touch the TCM, it can't change anything and therefore it can't cause any problems.

This is one of the reasons why I recommend getting a programmer that can accommodate custom tunes. The tuner can help with transmission operation.

After spending WAY more time than I ever wanted to with Diablosport and the 2014 I can conclude that I would run like hell from them if you have a 13 and 14 with 8spd. I honestly spent more than a day on the phone with them remotely logging into my PC and updating my i2 and sending revisions etc etc to try to get it to work and they stated it should work.

It completely locked up my PCM and they couldn't fix it remotely so they had to overnight my PCM with my handheld to their facility and they said it should work. Then it crippled my vehicle again and locked everything up requiring me to overnight my PCM a second time to them to reset.

They concluded to "skip" the TCM module to avoid issues but this isn't an acceptable solution. They should not release a firmware with TCM tuning with such fatal errors. I now have permanent error codes stored in my truck for PCM/TCM communication loss. If my truck was under warranty I would have lost any warranty from the dealer too with these codes.

I switched to HP Tuners and now have both engine and trans tuned...

I cant say anything for these other tuners, but I have a completely stock truck (2014 5.7 with the 8 speed), aside from tires, and I am running a superchips tuner. I am really pleased with it. It only has the ability to run canned tunes, but did show a small increase in fuel economy and an increase in “seat of your pants” power. Id recommend it if you dont plan on alot of mods.

Also if you'd like to witness the fiasco and getting my PCM back from Diablosport just to have it lock up and fail in the middle of a trans tune write check this video here:

I read about your issues and watched the videos as you were reporting on the problem and posting here.

I have to believe you were one of a very few who ever had problems with loading the tool on your truck.

I say that because (1) if it were a chronic problem we'd see more of it reported, (2) many here have used those programmers with good results, and, (3) I've tuned three of my personal MOPAR vehicles, and helped many others configure the tool for their cars and trucks, using Diablosport products since 2009 with barely any problems. That includes custom tune loading and modifying all the adjustable parameters available to the user.

I'm not saying you didn't have problems because obviously you did. I feel for ya as I had a similar issue some years ago loading a custom tune on my SRT8. I am not discounting the severity of those problems. Been there, done that. It really sucks to have your PCM turned into a brick. But it wasn't Diablosport's fault.

What I am saying is that a significant majority of Diablosport owners have used, modified and upgraded their Diablosport based tunes with great success.

Yeah I wouldn't wish for anyone to go through the same headache either. I completely agree with you that there are a ton of successfully tuned vehicles by Diablosport there is no denying that.

All I'm saying is that there IS known issues tuning the 13/14 trucks with Diablosport and their response is that there are some "picky or stubborn" trucks whatever that implies.

There is a pretty long thread on the Diablosport forums for transmission tuning for the 13/14 trucks and there is a lot of silence on it from the company on that subject and people's cry for help.

Another gentleman has been more vocal than me with his Diablosport issues on YouTube which you can check out here too

Go with an HP tune.As boosted stated there's a chance a Diablo tranny tune on your 14 will brick your PCM. Not worth the hassle on either a 13 or 14 truck with the 8 speed to use a Diablo tuner if you want tranny tuning . You'll definitely want tranny tuning if you're gonna throw a bunch of go-fast parts at your truck. My 2014 shifts at 6600 and chirps the tires on part throttle shifts

Check with Jay Greene at Greene Racing or Matt Brown at Demon Motosports. Both are doing remote/email HP tuning and can guide you through what you need. I've been HP tuned for the last few years and bought the VCM Pro Suite at the time.As far as I know,it's no longer available,so i'm not exactly sure what you need to buy now

HP Tuners MPVI2 comes with the software free for about $300. Then you buy licenses to tune whatever vehicle or module you want. Engine requires 2 credits and 8HP70 transmission requires 4 credits.

Vehicle support on the HP Tuners is much larger also and no limits either. The more credits you buy, the more vehicles you can tune.

I've got a 93 octane HP Tune on my 2014 but it's a 6 speed. Let me tell you though.... This thing flies! It's single cab express with clutch fan delete, 4.10 gears, CAI, Henry's exhaust (Local guy here) and 2/4 kit. My truck barks second at WOT every time. I enjoy the HP Tune. I'll try and post a video soon.
