I recently ordered an Outdoorsman with U-Connect 8.4AN and the basic speaker package. The money that I didn't spend on a "premium" OEM amp & speakers will go towards aftermarket gear. I'm digging for information at this point.

- Does anyone have the schematics for the 2014 8.4AN pre-outs and speaker wiring? Maybe the camera wiring too.

- What OEM functionality is lost if I use pre-outs from the head unit rather than a LOC behind the amp? I know the LOC method is simpler but, the amplified line outs can't be as clean as pre-outs.

- Any specs on the head unit display? Will it accept HDMI input with something like a Lockpick?

- Are any connectors or kits available? I really don't like cutting the OEM wiring if there is a reasonable alternative.

I thought the 2014 was integrated into the truck and can't be changed?

There is NO such thing as a factory radio having pre-outs. Do a search of the forum. there has been a link posted many times of a website that you put your VIN into and it give all the wire harness/ pin locations for the entire truck. It will give you your pin locations so you can hook up your LOC.

If you didnt get the alpine package the deck power is all in the head unit itself. once you remove the head unit all your speaker signal is right there. There is no external factory amp.

If you want the best sound get an audio summing device (JL cleansweep, rockford 360...) they take the signal and convert it to your amp (like a LOC, but with 100x the adjustments).

The only way to get video input is with the lockpic. that being said you can use an HDMI converter to get the hdmi signal to the head unit.

Thanks for the response, I think. I've never really found the "go search" phrase very useful but, you did provide some details and I thank you for that.

I've been researching this subject and coming up short. Actually, I'm not having much luck with the search feature on this site. For example, searching for "U-Connect 8.4AN" nets zero results.

So you are telling me that the 8.4 head units output a line level signal to the Alpine amp? They probably use he same head unit. I picked up pre-outs on my 2010 Camaro using a Metra kit and didn't think it was using a LOC. Now I'm curious and I'll have to check that out.

If you can share the link I'll input my VIN once I know it.

Yep, the Camaro OEM head unit was also line level out. That install had pre-outs from the aftermarket head unit.

Still need schematics and an adapter plug but no VIN yet.

Thank you, Ocelot! I'll do that as soon as I know the VIN.

Baum, hope we didn't get off on the wrong foot. I like JL Audio products so it looks like a CL-SSI is in my near future. Unless you would advise otherwise.

I've collected too many vehicles and I'm thinking about selling the Camaro. If so, I'll return it to stock and use the Audison amp and Hertz speakers for the Ram. On the other hand it's a fun car and I'll never recover the time and cash spent on it.

What's the hot ticket these days for a clean amp and speakers in the Ram?

not at all...

from a another camaro owner to another (i have a '13) no hard feelings. i only check this site usually during the day.

yes its line level to the alpine amps. it gets to be a pretty screwy situation (i had the alpine system in my '11 durango) i added subs/amps in there.

obviously you like your music to sound good like me if you are willing to buy hertz/ audison.

i personally am a fan of simple systems. i have been running the same setup for about 10 years. i use a nice set of components up front, a 4-channel amp, an a sub. i use 2 of the channels to the comps and the other 2 bridged to the sub. i always run the rears off the stock radio for just a little fill.

Can't go wrong with Audison and hertz if you have liked them before. I personally am going to throw down some money on HAT comps and run them actively and at that time I will probably find out that my 4ch amp will be the weak point in my system. The JL amps are great for quality and after that without getting to high priced for amps I would look into one of the quality korean built amps like Sundown audio, Skar audio, DD, Soundqubed, and there are a ton of European built amps but off the top of my head I can't remember which ones come from where. This is the forum I have gotten into for more quality products Car Audio | DiyMobileAudio.com | Car Stereo Forum. Good luck with your build.

:boti::boti:

2010 SS/RS with Longtubes, CAI and a good dynotune. The sound system has a 6 channel amp with 2 ch bridged for sub. Hertz font components and rear mid-base. JL Audio 10" sub. Full sound deadening from the front of the doors to the rear bumper. (Sound deadening made a huge difference in sound quality and road/exhaust noise reduction.) On-Star delete. Passport 9500ci with display mounted cleanly inside the speedo. I kept the OEM AMP and center speaker for chimes and escort only. The only intrusion to the OEM wire harnesses was the addition of connectors to utilize stock door speaker wiring. Besides that and sound deadening everything is restorable to stock condition. I did all the work except the dynotune.

Thanks for the info. Which HAT series are you using?

I haven't bought them yet still saving and initially I was going to go with the Imagine 6.5's but after doing some more reading I will probably go with the Legatia L3v2 and L6v2 and run without a tweeter to see how they work. If I want to add a tweet I will have to get a dedicated DSP to run a full three way which will be the goal down the road but just not in the cards right at this moment.
