Hello, my check engine light came on and I started getting low oil pressure so pulled the codes reference photos. Started with an oil change and oil pressure sensor replacement.
While I was doing that I found metal shavings I finished the oil change and kept driving it after clearing the codes to see if they come back I also cut the oil filter open it looks bad but I’m not a mechanic. My oil pressure before was 10psi now it’s sitting close to 50psi

This happened in the winter where I was idling my truck everyday in the morning for 10mins before work.

2015 dodge ram 1500 sport 5.7L Hemi
180k KM regular oil changes.

What is your hot idle oil pressure has to be at operating temp after driving. Also what brand/weight oil and what filter are you using? is your oil changed often or do you do 10k oil change?

38 psi, 5D20W, Brand Canadian Tire Synthetic, KN Filter. usually every 5k-7k km.
Psa. I used to do them at speedy lube and they used some generic filter idk the brand and id pay for the premium oil change but i felt that was a horrible deal and started doing my oil changes myself this was my first time doing my own oil I opted for kn filter since its easier to remove with just a socket and the oil was on sell.
I've read people are using 5D30W so next oil change ill do that.
the order I did everything

1. checked codes
2. checked oil pressure (oil pressure was low)
3. checked oil levels (oil level was perfect)
4. Drained oil removed oil filter and replaced oil pressure sensor
5. Finished oil change
6. cleared all errors.
7. drove roughly 60km no check engine light yet.

Sorry Dan What do you mean? the codes are in the photo I posted. after doing my own research on the codes they told me to do what I did if you reference my 7 steps. idk if this was caused by a bad oil filter clogging up and causing no oil to get to the cam shaft and rollers or if the rollers and cam shaft are failing which caused the oil filter to clog up. like I said I'm not a mechanic this is just info I've gathered. next 5km should I remove the oil pan and clear out any debris?
Cheers! :)

Any tips are greatly appreciated.

If it were mine or a customers truck I would not wait another 5,000KM before I took any action. I would have the pan off of it right now to inspect the rod and main bearings and see if there were any pieces of debris in the oil pump pickup tube.

Being as how he's in Edmonton, there's a 99.9% chance his truck is a 4X4,so he's in for a bit of work to pull the pan,but i agree,i think he should park it and pull the pan.

Yes, the 4WD oil pans add a little extra work but I would get the pan off in a hurry and start inspecting things before a catastrophic failure occurs.

Thanks for the reply it is 4x4 sounds good I’ll park it and do that the check engine light still hasn’t come back on after 150km of driving to and from work
You could pull the intake manifold,it's pretty easy to remove, then check the screen on the VVT solenoid for metal. It's the solenoid at the front of the engine, the other 4 solenoids in the valley are the MDS solenoids. If the VVT screen is covered in metal fillings, the engine could be toast, not always, but Ma Mopar reconmends a new engine if the screen is full of shiny stuff.
I'd do that first,as the intake is easier to remove then the oil pan on a 4X4

Look at how dirty the ports and gaskets are, that's oil being sucked through the pcv system,a catch can helps mininiumize that build up.
Watch it from the 46 minute mark to about the 53 minute mark, and he's working with a fairly clean manifold,i've seen them lots worse.I had one today that took 6 bucks at the local carwash to clean up the inside of the manifold and another good hour or more to clean up the ports in the heads today. It actually pee'd me off,as i didn't budget anywhere near enough time for the clean-up,but that's on me,as i know better, lol
