Hey, I got a 2016 Ram 1500 with the 5.7 hemi that’s having some weird issues. Truck will start having a shudder like a bad torque converter but then after will have a rough idle. Gets worse the more you beat on it but right when you turn it off and on it’s back to normal smooth idle. No codes or anything being thrown either.
I tried replacing the MDS Solenoids which significantly helped the shudder and idle but still does it from here and there especially on the highway.
Engine does not tick even the slightest, have done many hemis that needed a lifters/cams and this sounds smooth as it can be, not even a manifold leak. The only noise I can think of is a bit abnormal is when the truck goes into Eco mode which engages MDS, it has a rattle which leads me to timing chain but still doesn’t explain how the truck goes back to normal once it restarts and no codes. Also when you give full throttle it makes noises similar to timing chain slap in a way but won’t do it all the time.
I’ve also pulled apart the oil filter and found no metal shavings or anything to indicate significant failure. Issue also did start after a recent 2000km trip
Anyone experience anything like this? Have pulled apart many hemis but never encountered an issue like this
