I'm getting around 15 in town and about 19-20 on the highway with the cruise set. Both figures are hand calculated. I have the MDS turned off, and drive in "7" anytime I am under 50 mph. With the mod's I have my mileage is not a surprise to me nor unexpected.

Well then I have a question. From Texas to Alabama and back truck ran great, no issues. As I exited the highway, close to home I came to a stop sign and as it down shifted it BANGED into a lower gear. Scared the **** outta me. I stopped for gas and let it sit for abit. When i got back out onto the road, it never did it again. That was last year. I have still had no problems. I didnt use the +/- as yall are speaking of. Should I have been? 2017 Ram 1500 4x4 5.7

I also noticed my truck downshifting hard. Hard enough to feel. Not a loud bang as you described. My 06 Ram would bang hard shifting out of 4wd.

A lot of people "manually" shift their truck to stop the truck from going into the MDS mode. Some of us also manually shift our trucks into a lower gear, 7 in my case, while driving around town to prevent the truck for "lugging" when you are driving around city streets where the speed limit is usually around 30-35. There have been some complaints about the 8 speed having a harsh down shift, but I have not experienced that as I have had my transmission custom tuned. I am not sure what others have found to be the cure for that harsh downshift.

I had the harsh downshift into 2 and 1 occasionally when my 2018 was new. As I have been told, the transmission adapts to how you drive and under your typical conditions and "learns" after a bit. I don't know if that's accurate or not but it seems to have been the case for me as indeed my transmission is pretty smooth now.

FYI, 2018 stock 5.7 powertrain with 3.92 rear end gets about 16.x mpg around town and as high as 20.x mpg on the highway if not fighting wind or hills.

I just got a 2016 Ram 1500 hemi this spring with the 8 speed transmission. How accurate is the mileage on the computer? It is showing 21-23 mpg on average. Seems crazy high. The eco symbol comes on while cruising down the road but even at 70mph. My last truck was an 06 hemi and I got 17mpg in the summer if I tried to lay off the gas. The last time I fueled up I calculated the actual miles vs gas I put in. It showed 20.8 while the computer showed 22. Still exceptional for a full size pickup.

i ALSO JUST PURCHASED A 2016 RAM 1500. 5.7 HEMI WITH A 8 SPEED TRANSMISSION I CAN'T GIVE ANY HIGHWAY MILEAGE BUT AROUND TOWN, I'M GETTING 13 - 14.5. THAT IS ALSO WHAT I GOT ON MY 2015 RAM 1500, DO YOUR TRIP METERS ALSO SHOW THE SAME INFO. YOU MAY WANT TO LOOK AT THESE, GET A FULL TANK AND GO OFF YOUR ODOMETER FOR MILEAGE AND THEN FILL UP TO CHECK.

" MOST IMPORTANT"
HAS THE TIRE SIZE BEEN CHANGED? CHECK YOUR MANUAL FOR SIZE OR LOOK IN THE DOOR FOR THE VIN. THEN SEE WHAT YOU HAVE, 17 OR 20, OR SOMETHING ELSE. SIZE MATTERS LOL. YES EVEN IN TIRES. HOPE THIS HELPS, CRAIG

My readout is usually high 1 to 2 but I just filled with the dash at 28.2 and calculated at 25.8. it seems when I am squeezing the most out of a gallon the gap increases and my brothers 18 does the same.

My 2014 SLT 5.7l with 66000 miles gets an honest hand calculated 22-22.5 mpg on the road and 19 around town. the MPG gauge reads about 2 mpg higher than actual. Photo of dash read during long trip with 2 people onboard and a modest load read over 24 mpg, but was actually just over 22mpgspeedometer.jpg

Agreed. My 2016 just has stock 265-70r17 SRA that I haven't replaced yet. Also, it's good to note the engine size, transmission, and gear ratio. Just to make sure we are comparing apples to apples. But from the sounds of it, these hemis get some impressive fuel mileage. That's why I started the post initially is to check if the numbers I'm getting seem realistic. I expected under 20mpg.

I'm switching to nitto terra grapplers this week. They're a 10ply instead of 4ply. I expect to see my mileage decrease just from the weight of them. We will see...

Awesome looking tire but you will definitely lose 2-3 mpg with them...

My 2017 1500 crew cab got nearly 25 mpg on a day trip to PA going there. I got 23 mpg on way home. My girlfriend and sons say I drive like a grandpa. I was on I-78 drafting the big rigs......and being light on the go pedal.

I'm not complaining about the gas mileage I'm getting. I was questioning the accuracy of the computer because it was so high. My last truck got 15-16 and I didn't expect the 2016 to get such good mileage for a hemi

Mine, hand calculated, is about .7 mpg high. i have a 2016 qc hemi rwd with 3.21. on long trips at 70 i get 24 (outside of going into mountain country), and 21-22 at 75.

Has anybody ever compared the mpg difference (if any ) between 87/89/91 octane? I’ve only had my rig for 2k miles.

I doubt you could calculate the diff....Stick to what they say to run unless you start tuneing..
