Hey guys,

Was just wondering if anyone could advise if this is a normal sounding 3.6 or if the slight tick is possibly the rollers being worn. I know earlier 3.6s had issues with the rollers but I was told those were fixed after 2014. The video may sound a little loud but this was with the mic sitting towards the inside of the wheel well toward the engine. While driving I can't hear the tic in the cab. If I have the windows down and pass a wall I can sort of hear it but only when I'm listening for it. Seems to not be as bad when it's not cold out either.

Here's a video:

Two questions.
How many miles is on it?
Is that as warmed up or cold start?

Some mic's are very sensitive. Does it really sound like the video?

If there is 50k miles plus, and you are worried, I would highly recommend a used oil analysis from blackstone. When you get results, view blackstone thread sticky in 4 gen engine performance section for compare and ask questions.

Read tick thread in my sig, some oils are better as killing ticks.

I attempted to post the ticking I had. It is 1:11. I get an error, too large a file. Nick

Nick14. You might want to try to upload it to a video hosting site and then leave a link to it here. (i.e. Youtube)

Seriously, it's worth it! Blackstone will tell you things in the oil you would never be able to see or know were happening. I guess if your here asking, you don't want to drop the money at the stealership for am in depth diagnostic. And if it is a lifter issue? Just because a problem was fixed across the board doesn't mean you are guaranteed 0 issues. No matter how reliable, there is always variables. If it is "the tick", keep driving it and it'll get worse. If it's just an injector that's loud or an A/C compressor with a tick, it'll fail eventually.

I had a rocker failure in my 2015. If you hear it it’s digging into the cam. Not a real hard job to do if the cams are good

Do you still have power train warranty left?

It's tough to decipher the sound over the innerwebs and smart phone.

Like said, rocker arm issues aren't unheard of on pentastars. I'd get it looked at if you're concerned.

Nothing wrong with used oil analysis, but I wouldn't wait for those results, or more importantly, rely on a dealer to use the results.

A 2017 Pentastar 3.6L Again a box van with 93,000 miles.

Good video showing the torn down cylinder head and cracked valve.
