I am getting ready to start my G56 swap on my 17 power wagon. Truck has about 92k on it and I smoked the overdrive clutch in the 66. Totally my fault, I'm an idiot. I have wanted to do this since I bought the truck 3 years ago so the trans losing 4th, 5th and 6th really just gave me the perfect excuse. I have found a 2006 hemi g56 and ordered just about everything I can think of. I'm sure there will be a hurdle or two. I have tuning lined up from AJ at hemifast and should get that at the end of the month. I can't start tearing into it until that is in the mail since I am doing this at a buddy's shop. I have been keeping track of all pricing for this and so far I'm around 3500 all in. Now with the tuning that will go up some. I have been doing other things along side this though. Spark plugs, brakes, fixing an axle seal leak. So I'm trying to keep prices separate. I have ordered as much OE stuff as possible. All my shifter boots and the shifter itself is factory stuff. Clutch pedal and all the stuff to mount it is all factory. My goal is to be under 7k which is the cost(ish) if a built 66rfe. I think I'm on my way to making that happen. I will keep updating as I go. Hopefully taking pictures along the way.

When I thought I lost my trans a month or so ago I started looking into the same swap. When I came to the same conclusion of it being $6-7k, I was really glad it ended up just being a sensor. If you're comfortable writing that check then should be a really fun swap behind that 6.4. Definitely will be curious if anything unexpected comes up.

Alright guys. Teardown has begun. Almost ready to pull the t case. Noticed the trans crossmember is slotted. Hopefully the g56 mount will bolt in without issue. 20260718_103427.jpg

Everything is out now. Going to start installing parts next weekend. A little concerned about the fuel lines because they crossover right where the shifter will come up. May be able to get away with making up a couple brackets to push them one way or the other. All I know is that the easy part is over. Dropping a trans on the ground sucks. I ordered a trans jack since i have access to a lift.

Subscribed! RF is this the first thread on this? I have not seen it yet, or forgot :)

I think Kyle never did start, on his list I'm sure.

As far as I know this is the only one being done. Now there is another thread with someone talking about a shop that has been doing one but it's been years so far. Im hoping this will be done in less than a month. I only get weekends to work on it though.
