I'd start by playing with all the features and make sure they all work. Make sure the functions on the keyfob all work. If you look under the hood, look to see if there is a general haze of dust, except for some particular area. I'd look a little closer at the clean spot. Purchasing from a dealer?

A 1 y/o vehicle with an appropriate amount of miles for the year. You've still got warranty, if you are buying from a reputable dealer I can't imagine there would be much to worry about.

Give it a good test drive in both city and highway traffic, check for a carfax or other service history to make sure there isn't any major damage reported.

Get a look at the brake pads and take a look at the rotors. Rotor surface should be flat and without shiny rings. If you have questions/doubts on the brakes, get something in the way of a written statement on it from the dealer. $0.02

Depending on what part of Utah it came from, I'd go underneath and look over the underside with a fine-toothed comb. They tend to salt the roads a bit, The air and dust that blows in from the Great Salt Lake is laden with salt, and if that truck went to Wendover, NV even once...

Mind, all that salt is mitigated by the fact that Utah is almost all desert, getting nearly all of its precipitation as snow in the winter.

I was gonna say, they do salt the roads in UT but it is very dry with practically no humidity. Rust really isn't as much of an issue as it is in the northeast and midwest.

Agreed. Its not Utah itself that will wreck things. IF the truck stayed there, it'd be just fine for decades on end.

However, it's when said vehicle goes from Utah to somewhere wetter.

I lived in Utah for around a decade. I then brought all my stuff (including a ~15-year-old Jeep Wrangler) with me to Oregon. The Jeep's body and frame went straight to hell in less than two years after I got here, and was scrapped shortly thereafter.

The eons of salt-laden dust and grime that had collected was no biggie in the dry desert air, but as soon as it met the humidity-heavy rain-soaked Pacific Northwest, all that salty dust in all those forgotten corners went straight to work - turning every metal surface it touched into rust.

Mind, a beat-up and banged-up old Jeep (I visited Moab and Antelope Island way too often in it), coming up here to the one mega-rainy part of Oregon (there's a reason the nearest town to me is named "Mist", after all) probably isn't a good example to compare against, but it was one hell of a lesson to me. :)

Long story short, it's just something to keep an eye out for is all.

That's a valid point. When my wife & I moved back to NC from UT we had a Subaru Impreza Wagon, but we got rid of it about a year later because we inherited two cars along with grandma's house... why make payments on something we weren't driving.

Have the dealer run the VIN for service and recall history.

I'd say you should be okay with a truck under 20k miles. Maybe bring it to oriellys or advanced auto (if the dealer will let you) and have it scanned for codes. I'd you buy it, take the negative battery terminal off to reset the pcm to have it "unlearn" all previous driving styles... Gets some of that hemi performance back. I'd probably give the throttle body a good cleaning too, if it needs it. My '17 Rebel is still like brand new, even after 16k miles.

Must me vehicles are good (don't need any moderate to large fixes) until after the 40k mark.... Usually..

Good luck!
