Just bought a power wagon 2 weeks ago and the CEL is on. It’s throwing codes P3402, 3426, 3442, 3450. The truck has 1100 miles on it and I’m currently on vacation. The truck drives fine and seems ok. I put new gas in it and some Lucas fuel cleaner in it. Have you guys had any experience with these codes and what’s a good course of action to take. I’ll be taking it to the dealer once I get back home.

Those codes point to a failure of your MDS to engage on cyl. 1, cyl 4, cyl. 6 & cyl. 7.

If your CEL is not blinking at you then you can drive the vehicle. Since the MDS system is off most of the time except for steady state cruising, driving in Tow/Haul mode would keep the solenoids on those cylinders from trying to engage which would be a good thing pending dealer repairs.

You can also select 6th gear and it will also prevent the MDS from kicking on. Either way, let us know the outcome once your back from vacation

I would disconnect the battery for a few minutes. My brand new 2014 set a code in the first 100 miles driving home from the dealer in Denver. Got home and did the battery disconnect repair and the light has never come back on. (5 years and 52000 miles)

Light just went off tonight. Must have been bad gas I got. Weird!

If it set codes, something was wrong, or the computer read was wrong. On such a new truck I'd take it in when you get back and let em check it. Can't hurt and then it's documented there was an issue should future issues arise.

Chadder: Bad Gas - would have Nothing to do with the MDS lifters failing or pushing out a code.

Listen to the advice above.

Try the battery disconnect - if you receive the codes again, I would get it back to the stealership ASAP!

Good Luck!

Yeah for sure I’ll take it in once I get home. It really does kill the confidence level with this new truck. Coming from a 15 Cummins, I don’t wanna regret buying this truck because I do really enjoy it.

I do not agree that bad gas wont throw random codes.

i just had this happen to me.

First codes the truck ever threw were after i went to a **** sunoco that actually looked like ****, and i had never been to in 20k miles.
i had camshaft and crankshaft position sensor codes thrown and dealer had no thoughts after looking at the truck.

i filled the tank up once it was at 50% with 93 at my typical station.
purchased lucas fuel additive and added this for a few tanks.
no issues since, and ill never return to that station.

I’ve read a few other threads where people were having some weird issues from a tank of bad gas. I will not go to that Sheetz again.

My truck developed a real bad miss and it was the mds solenoids went out in my truck and they were covered under warranty. Unfortunately it’s been a known problem with the mds system. My truck was in the shop for 4 days just to get it figured out.

What issues were you experiencing? Did it throw codes?

I started it up one morning and it was misfiring really bad so I drove it straight to the dealership and dropped it off. While I was driving it to them it wouldn’t go over but about 40 mph. It shook so hard that I could hear tools rattling in the toolbox when I was at a stoplight. I was on the phone with my service advisor the whole time and she could hear it missing.

Gotcha. Mine was acting fine but when I read the codes I was kinda nervous. I’m gonna run mine by the dealer today and see what they say even though my CEL is off.

I’ve got family in Lancaster. Which dealership are you using? I hope they have a good reputation

2018 Power Wagon: To revive this thread, at 3076 miles and on vacation pulling the summer home, my MDS just stopped working and the CEL came on (not flashing thank the PW Gods) I left my scan tool at home, silly me, its a new truck nothing would go wrong........wrong. I will try the battery trick, and maybe stop by a Autozone or ? to get a loner scan tool $60K plus for all this and more! Not happy!

Crazy that this is even an issue which such a brand new vehicle. I really do think my issue was a bad gas issue as I have not seen a return of the check engine light. Definitely get the codes read and report back as to what the codes are.

Not sure of the codes yet, I will check when I get home. I did the "battery trick" CEL gone, and MDS is again working. Hopefully the codes stored. I made an appointment at the dealer to at least get it into the system that there was a problem.
