What do you guys think about the MPG of the new 1500? I'm puzzled as to how they cut the coefficient of drag, dropped over 200lbs and still get the same EPA as the 'old' truck did. Now I'm averaging close to 20 which is damn impressive to me in my world. I used to maybe get 2 better (at best) with my V6 durango in the same environment. The size difference is dramatic between the durango and the new 1500 (I was surprised at how big of a difference when they were side by side before I traded)

Did they improve the response to the point that it negated the fuel economy gains? I haven't driven the 'old' truck enough to speak to the differences in drive train response/feel.

I should add that I live in WV so the hills are....everywhere. I could see getting 22 with a light foot on flat ground in mixed driving, mostly hwy.

The only way I can get 20 MPG is by driving like 55 MPH with the cruise on and little to no stop and go traffic. Of course that's the price you have to pay with 3.92's and if you go with some better tires you can expect to loose that too.

I had a 2016 Ram Sport with S&B and black Widow 300 muffler.
Had 3.92s and Michelin LTX defenders (stock size

My city was 16.5-17. And hwy trips were 20-21 at 70mph. Never had any issues with getting that mileage. City though, my MDS was turned OFF.
Hwy, I left it on. I’m in Mid Missouri.

I have ordered a new 2019 Ram Laramine with E Torque Hemi and Should here around September.
Here is a window sticker for an e torque Hemi (not mine)

Now have a 2018 Charger RT392 and city is 19 and hwy average 25. Have achieved 27.2mpg at 73 from houston TX to Fort Leonard Wood. 19a6efcbef451abf37e8cbda528cfd5d.jpg

You definitely drive the 392 too slow lol. I get about 17mpg with a lot of highway (some in heavy traffic) in my Charger 5.7.

Fun fact, I had a RT Charger as a rental and couldn’t get as good as gas mileage as I did in my scat. But you’re right, as soon as that pedal drops so does that mileage. Lol and fast.

I drive it like an adult lol. I have my fun every now and again. Otherwise I cruise. Spirited take offs but nothing obnoxious.

I am slowly going that route. I rarely drive the R/T and drive the truck like an old man. Probably because it feels so much slower than the Charger. I am sure in a few years when I upgrade to hopefully the 426 Charger, the kid will come out in full force.

But to shift back on topic, do you tow with your truck? I am really curious for the eTorque to see what I could get my gas mileage to while towing. If it could keep it in the 15-16 range I would be ecstatic.

How many of you hand calculated the mpg? The computer has long been dubbed the "lie o meter".

People don’t take into account for idling time and cold starts. Moving at 0mph will still use gas. It’s off due that percentage and the manual states there is a certain percentage variance.

Also all gas pumps are not calibrating exactly, there is a certain percentage off by the National Institute of standards and technology- Weights and Measures; there is also a percentage they’re allowed to be off.

I reset the trip meter every fill up and use fuelly to track my mpg. Last tank truck said 20.6, fuelly says no no, 19.7. Either way not bad for a full sized truck in strictly in town driving. Of course, it's a V-6, but it has shown 28 mpg on 65 mph flat highway. So if that worked out for real to 27 that would be awesome!

I usually get 19-21 MPG on the highway at 80MPH.
Live in FL so flat roads and low DA.

Since my commute is 90% highway, my average is usually high 18's.

Going to hand calculate on next fillup

It's usually off by 1-2mpg on average in my experience. In my situation the computer has actually been fairly accurate over the past few years compared with a hand calc. all things considered.

I haven't heard one publication talk about it or even mention the fact. It'll be interesting to see how the e-torque stacks up...looks like the V8 is 17-22 mpg so I'm thinking the V6 etorque will be 19-24mpg...don't think the V6 numbers are out yet.

This, compared to 15 city / 21 highway / 17 combined for non-eTorque Hemi 4x4, correct? Has anyone seen the MPG numbers for a 4x2 eTorque Hemi yet?

I'm averaging about 17-18 with mixed city highway driving But that also includes remote starting it. Letting it run while I drop off the kids. That's with a 4x4 and 3.92s

I too came from an awd v6 durango. But I used to average about 20-22 in the same conditions

I’m getting no better than 15mpg with the same specs in a truck.
