Well, what year HEMI truck do you have and mileage? ... any prior problems would help ..., did you purchase your truck brand new? ... etc.

In my humble opinion, 5w/20 isn't and oil weight/viscosity that I'd use in an engine known for possible engine failures, ie cam/lifter failure.

Good luck.

How about more information as to why the engine needed to be replaced.. FYI Ford, GMC and Toyota are also having engine problems so the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence...

Maybe cam and lifters but definitely something internal. Mechanic said it would cost thousands of dollars to get to the cam and lifters just to see if there is metal shavings in the motor so it would be best just to replace the motor which he wanted 11500.00 to replace the motor but I found another place that gave me the price of 9500 so I am letting him do that and then I will sell it. 76600 out of a motor is absolutely rediculous never again

Pull the intake , then inspect the oil control valve for metal specks .
Intake has ten 8mm bolts that secure it to the block .
There will be a few other things that need disassembly, but it’s self explanatory.

Apparently it's cam and lifter failure it's making a tapping noise and grinding noise that gets worse with rpm. They took the belts off and still made noise and I didn't say anything about the grass on the other side of the fence. They are all pretty much junk but I've had fords all my life and never had a problem but I wouldn't own a new one. I wouldn't have a gm as they have to many electrical problems and now I see they have a new problem with them shutting off going down the highway which could be electrical also.

My 5.7 hemi started ticking at startup for several minutes a couple thousand miles ago at 65K. Dealer had it a couple of times and couldn't hear it until I left it with them for a week. Finally they heard it, decided it was a lifter on the right side pulled the engine apart and replaced all the right side lifters checked the cam and said it was fine, no damage. Picked the car up and the next morning the tick was back the same as before. They did tell me the exhaust manifolds were not leaking. So I'm getting pretty fed up with this, the tick is pretty loud but does go away after driving 3-4 miles. Sometimes comes back briefly even with a warm engine at startup for a short time.
I changed the oil and filter last week, used Redline 5W-20 and have a couple hundred miles on it and so far no change in the tick. I figured I'd put the same weight oil in as was originally called for. Should I be seeing some change in it by now if the Redline were to cure the problem or is it too soon? By the way, the only time this engine idles is at stoplights.
Thanks

No, two hundred miles on the Redline oil is likely too soon to judge if it will fix the tick. Hydraulic lifter ticks like yours often need up to 1,000 miles for fresh, high-quality oil to fully quiet them, if oil is the only issue. Since your tick goes away after a few miles, it’s almost certainly oil/lifter related, not a catastrophic engine problem. If it persists after ~1,000 miles, then it’s likely mechanical (rocker arm, pushrod, or left-side lifters) rather than just oil-related.

Follow up to my original post as it turned out it wasn't the cam and the lifters the best we could figure was it was something between the torque converter and the crankshaft. Unbolted the torque converter and noise went away reinstalled torque converter and noise was back. Best we could figure out the weight of the torque converter was pulling down on the crankshaft which was causing the problem. Also when the motor was pulled and intake removed the wiring for the mds had melted some so apparently got real hot. Waiting on the engine rebuilder to let us know what he finds.

Now as 4 gens are getting old it seams like we have more ticks to worry about, lol. Flex plates have been more prevalent last 5 years. No oils will help that or exhaust bolts.
