I got a quick question, what MPG is everyone getting with their 1500s?

I have a 2020 Big Horn crew cab, 5.7L hemi, 8 speed with 3.92 rear.
I just did a 600 mile trip pulling a car trailer, probably about 5500lbs,
I got 11mpg, that seem horrible to me. (I can get 19-20 on the highway with no trailer)

I used to have a 2015 Ram crew cab, 5.7L, 8 speed same 3.92, and I remember getting like 14-15mpg while towing a similar weight car trailer in that.
I don't understand why its lower on the new truck.
It that what you guys are getting?

I know MPG can vary depending on alot of things, but both my Ram where lowered, on the same size wheel and tire, Im in Florida, so flat ground, not going up hills, etc.
I do drive fast with the trailer, but I drive the same with now as with my previous Ram.

Air drag is what will effect you fuel economy more than the actual weight. Example I tow a 24' enclosed car hauler that 3K lbs empty which I get about 16 mpg, my 18' boat is 3200 lbs and will get about 20 mpg, this is behind my EcoDiesel.
It's hard to tell exactly from both pictures but it almost looks like your current one the load is further back, it's probably catching more air.
Hemi like their gas and if your in the double digit fuel economy, that's not doing bad. To get upwards of 14-15 while towing when some guys manage that just driving.

..****, with winter fuel, I'm barely getting 14-15mpg empty.

Like was mentioned above, wind drag is the biggest culprit when towing on flat ground. ..unless you have another type of drag from the trailer. (brakes, tire pressure, etc).

Though from what I've read, the current Gen RAM gets worse real world fuel mileage than the previous Gen. Again, it's just the trend I've seen online in most of the MPG threads.

my trailer is 28' long and 6000# ish and I get 8.5-10 towing depending on the terrain. I set cruise for 68-69 and the truck pulls fine..could get 9 going a little slower but I live in a metro area so its freeways in every direction for a ways..I use regular gas except if really hot out, I might put a tank of midgrade..BTW I usually get 20 or so on the highway without the trailer..and have got 21.5 a cpl. times.

My 2015 outdoorsman(3.92) drops by half when pulling my 6000# TT. Get 12-14mpg imperial driving no more than 60. Your's sounds about right.

Lucky you! We pull a 8 to 9K travel trailer that has 16 inch wheels and sits a little high. It pushes a lot of wind so we are in the 8.5 to 10 MPG range. The F 150 we traded for the 2021 Hemi, 3.92 did about the same. Not great but love the truck.

This last 2020/2021 winter doing around 3500 miles towing(snow bird) to AZ and back to WA we averaged 10/11. That's just the towing, and we pull just over 10000# fiver. Got about the same pulling with an "05 Duramax.

Average 8-9mpg with this setup; 2017 1500 5.7L / 8 speed / 3.92 rear and trailer @ 6500lbs, hence the upgrade to a 2500 CTD recently as it did struggle on steep grades.

I just did the same change with a similar weight trailer. No struggles now.

You’re old truck did not get 14 mpg towing. The dash lies.
10-11 mpg in a us gallon doing 60 mph translates into 12-14 mpg on a imperial gallon i average that with my trailer and thats at 100 klmh or 62 mph

Nobody uses imperial gallons for gas in North America, it's all US.

Just did a test of my new 2021 2500. Filled up and drove over the Colorado mountains and back. Evic read 17.5 mpg. Filled up today and actual mileage is 15.6 This is my 6th Chrysler product with the readout and every one has been off a lot. Dont trust your 'feel good' reading as you will be disappointed when you find out what it actually is.

Well my comment probably came across more snarky than intended. But if you switch the units in your truck from L/100 KM to MPG then the MPG will be calculated using US gallons. Also if you use google to convert by typing in something like "convert 13 l/100km to mpg" and then look at the result, it will also be US gallons.

no problem im old school and i hand calculate my mpg in imperial gallons always i dont use the computer. and a caveat in my old trucks pulling a trailer i was lucky to get 5 or 6 imperial miles to the gallon and the truck had 240 horse power and could only tow half the weight, so even getting 10 mpg a us gallon is pretty good.
