I have a 2020 ram 1500 Ecodiesel. It has 150,000 miles. I know that sounds like alot, but when you figure a person with 75 mile commute (one way) everyday for work 50 weeks a year 5 days a week. Also who buys a truck and doesn't drive it?
So heres what happened:
SETC (Service Electric Throttle Control) came on, took it to mechanic and he said it was my EGR Cooler was leaking. so I got that replaced ($3,000) but it still had the SETC, the mechanic said i had to take it to the dealer to get it reset. So i went to the dealership and they said i had some recalls on it one being a fuel pump. However they didnt have the fuel pump in stock and it was back ordered like 2 months. I told them just let me know when it comes in. about 2 weeks later they call and said they got one in. so i took my truck in and they replaced it... took them 3 days to do it... when i got it back i was driving about 400 miles and the SETC came back on. Took it into the dealership and they said it was my turbo underboost and i needed a new turbo. so i replaced that ($7,000). Took them like 3 weeks to get that done, charged me a ($600) upcharge because they had to ship parts from other dealerships. the next day less than 100 miles after leaving this dealership my oil pressure light comes on. stop and check my oil and it was 2 qts low (i know this because I put 2 qts in to get it to the line). oil pressure light turns off so i figured it was all good. however on my way home from Gurnee to Rockford the oil pressure light comes back on, then the engine shut off. Had it towed back to the dealership. 5 months later they finally are able to get around to my truck. they pulled the oil pan and found this in it. they said my engine bearing disintegrated and its normal for an engine bearing to go around 150k.
These are pictures of what came out of the oil pan. My biggest question is when replacing a turbo, is it required to do an oil change? if the dealership would have done the oil change they would have saw the stuff in the oil. When i asked the mechanic at the dealership (some kid in his 20s) why they changed the turbo he said that there were chips taken out of it. they never took any pictures or showed me the turbo since they had to send it back for as a core before i came in to pick up my truck.
