2021 Ram 1500 split tailgate stuck closed!!!???

I NEED HELP!!

I have a 21 Ram 1500 laramie with a split tailgate. The tailgate has been stuck closed for some time and I am trying to save some money from bringing it to the dealer. I have checked fuses and they are good. I have a buddy run a diagnostic on my OB2. He said he cant send a signal to my multi function latch.This is where he believes the problem is (Actuator or wire split). My issue is getting all the plastic from the inside and t30 bolts behind the plastic off the inside of the tailgate. Its stuck closed and the plastic wedges below the bed. I cant find a forum of any emergency release levers to drop the tailgate.

Did you check fuse to see if it is not defective and properly seated? If the paddles on the bottom of the exterior latch on the bigger door won't open it, you are going to have to figure out how to get plastic off so you can get to Torx bits on inside panel. Sorry, don't have the split tailgate so don't know much about them.

Had the same on my 2023 Limited Longhorn; it was the latches that had to be replaced. They have three of them.

Have you even checked with your Dealership? They may fix the issue at nocharge if it's a mechanical failure. They can also give you an estimate on repair if need be, you don't have to have the work done there if you think it's too much!

I had issues with my 2021 & with a 2020. Slamming only worked for a while. Last week it starts buzzing it was not closed. So now it won't open either way. Two days went by & today it opens normal again - both ways. I sprayed the hell out of all the latches (5) with WD40 Penetrating spray. There must be micro switches that sense the mechanical position of each latch & any latch not fully closed will not allow current to allow the operation of that latch.
I also heard there was a recall from 2019 up but I ran my VIN & nothing was found. If you cannot open the interior covers they will have to be removed from inside the bed. I've never done it. And my truck has a cover so in that case how would the dealer gain assess?
Being an X Ford mechanic I've taken interior door panels off to get inside a door when it was shut & it's NO fun!
Once the doors do open keep those latches well lubed!!

Can you hear a click noise when you try the release?

I've read about pushing the tailgate closed at the same time as engaging the release being successful.

Hi, remove the steel panel on your tailgate, hold in place by Torx screw. If you have a plastic bedliner, it's bolted with the same torx screws, leave one bottom screw loose and pull on the top part to hold the steel cover part and remove the last screw.
On each latches, there's a little plastic ''toggle'', turn the driver side toward the rear of the truck till you ear a click. sometimes there's no ''toggle'' on the passenger side, but you can still flip the manual unlock flap down or reach in the back of the latch and press down on the plastic tab on the right side of the spring...Your tailgate should open...

Yeah, saw that, but figured that since i swap a 2019 2500 tailgate and ran into some issues, i'll post...He must haven't been in such need then !!!
