225 slant 6
I just purchased a 1986 250 Ram full size van with a slant 6 225 and it won't start. Checked new plug wiring, new plugs, new points, dist cap and rotor. Checked timing mark with #1 tdc, rotor @ #1, checked spark at plug, plenty of gas shooting into new carb. Tries to fire but just won't run. New battery w/ full charge, fresh non ethanol gas. There is a vacuum hose missing from distributor and carburetor. Would the vacuum hoses be the problem?

You cannot have vaccuum leaks period. Plug the holes with caps and then go back to basics. The distributor will only need vaccuum at anything off idle to advance timing when needed. Make sure dwell is set properly too, that is the point setting.

Pretty sure 1986 is electronic ignition. Make sure there is spark and no vacuum leaks like Elvira said. Just need fuel, air, spark, at the correct time.
