Bought a surprisingly useful tool the other day I thought I'd pass along. Home Depot had (still has, here) the compact Roybi tire inflator for $24.95. For that $$ ...picked one up. A buddy's been telling me how helpful his was on his farm.

Yeah, it's one of the better tools I've bought in a while. Went around and pumped up a bunch of low tires. 15" car tire takes about 3.75 min, 0-25psi. You set the target pressure and it stops at that press.

Got one Skid str tire which needs a boost about every 2-months. Those have about 2.5 truck-tires-worth of air, and take a couple air tanks of air. I figured I'd leave the Ryobi, and come back later. Nope...pumped it up pretty quick before I finished checking fluids. It was just low, not flat. I'm sure Milwaukee's is better, but this is a lot more compact...figured worth $25. It's probably best suited if you have vehicles/tires spread out like trailer tires, wagons, trucks outside, etc you don't want to drive (or hook up & pull) around to the shop.

Poor air tank...I have a feeling it's going to become lonely :)

I've looked at those wondering if they're any good. It's $40 bucks up here though, and doesn't appear to come with the battery aarrgghh.

I would just add these general cautions on high-speed inflators:

1) Avoid using them on hot/humid days. I've noticed they can pump moisture in a tire. Dryer days are just fine.

2) It's a brushed (motor) tool. So if it's warm/hot outside, respect the duty-cycle. The motor brush areas on some power tools can overheat/melt. If it's real cold outside like it's been here lately (~15*F) heat isn't a problem.

Did it come with a battery and charger?

In our local H-D, there are other reduced prices in-store (Ryobi) which don't show up on the website. They're holiday specials. They have a big stack of on-sale Ryobi items in the center isles. But also check over by the compressors ...if you're driving by.

No. I should have specified it was "Tool only".

Honestly...the kit batteries suck anyway. Yer better off forgoing the kit and buying one High-Performance battery, either 2ah one of THESE, or a 4ah (High-Performance battery). Genuine Ryobi...don't fall for the low-priced aftermarket rip-offs...you'll be sorry. Then go buy a One+ Ryobi charger off ebay for $15-20. That way you end up with their top battery/s which will last a long time which you can use in other tools. Esp high-drain tools (grinders/saws,etc).

I was using a 4ah battery and I pumped up 4 car tires from flat to 26 psi and still had 2 bars of life in the battery. I use the 2ah High-Performance battery in a little Ryobi brushless angle grinder and it does great, runs a long time. I have the latest Mil grinder too, which is real smooth, but somehow I really love that little brushless Ryobi grinder...lol

All the tool brands package their lame batteries with a 'kit'. Well...most kits. Best to avoid the lame kit batteries and get the HP batteries ....or if it's Milwaukee...buy the HO batteries. Right now there have been some great deals on batteries. I could go all day on recent fab jobs using my new Mil grindr on one 3ah High-Output Milwaukee battery. Well a couple times I put it on the charger at lunchtime.

I’ve used those before and find them convenient. I bought a 3 gallon 120v compressor at HF and keep it along with 25’ of hose and my digital chuck under the rear seat. Plug it into the 120v outlet, build pressure and go.

That's strange...I don't see any HP batteries on that amazon site... Sux

You could try ebay...as long as you are sure it's a Genuine Ryobi battery. There are a lot of fakes which appear 99% identical (except the quality of the cells). Look at the screws...if they're phillips...that's a fake give-away. Should be torx.

Even just a regular Ryobi 2ah/4ah battery, or even a 'kit' will work fine with the compressor if you can't find the HP ones. If you have tk or trailer tires to pump up, I'd probably recommend the 4ah battery.

There are a bunch of those Ryobi inflators on ebay ...$28 all day long.

I've bought a bunch of lightly used Ryobi tools off ebay. Never been stung yet (knock on wood -- my head!!). I used to be a one-brand guy, but people toss power tools at our recycling center ...so I have several brand battery systems...lol.

Just received a current 40v Ryobi Brushless Chainsaw the other day w/batt ...off ebay. Looks like it was used once. Works great. Usually used tools are about 1/2 or 1/3 of new. I've bought several used Mil tools used too. So far so good. Who needs a stinkin' warranty!!

Note: sometimes new on-sale tools make more sense

I've seen those. They seem like a good item. Thanks for the info! :waytogo:

Wild One: There are also no-name inflators like THIS, (below), which fit Milwaukee M18 batteries and also can use 12V. And have a light. Be nice if the Ryobi had a light. They have the same for DeWalt/Makita batteries too. If you have Milwaukee M18 or DeWalt/Makita batteries but don't have Ryobi, these probably make sense. My brother just bought one. Hasn't received it yet. I'll post a review once he gets it. When I bought the Ryobi, I didn't have time to do my usual research/review reading ...just bought it.

I have and keep that same ryobi inflator in my work car. Comes in handy especially driving on jobsites where you're almost guaranteed to get a nail or screw in your tire once a year. Every road trip we take it gets thrown in whatever vehicle we are taking.

I might as well chime in too. I have one that fits in your pocket, and then theres my ridgid version, which is kinda loud. Very handy to take along anywhere.

BTW I just saw this 50% discounted Ryobi batt/charger deal HERE. Base battery. Should be enough to run the inflator and other non-demanding Ryobi tools, fine. It'll get you started. If you plan to run a grinder, 1/2 impact, circular saw or 18V chainsaw, you want the H-P batteries (preferably 4ah HP).

I wouldn't buy into Ryobi unless you've been thinking about getting into Ryobi gear. They have some good stuff. I like Ryobi for what it is. Maybe it's the green color, lol. Homeowner grade. Not as good as Milwaukee or DeWalt, but lot less expensive. There are a lot of good Ryobi (lightly used) deals on ebay if that doesn't bother you. I have both (and some others) ...there's a time and place for each in my shop.

If there's a HF nearby you, Bauer probably makes more sense for an economy tool line.
