3-way coolant valve

I've been getting intermittent engine code for the three-way coolant valve for over two years and not sure if I should change it out. Dealers want $700 plus but I found one for $140, still , not sure if its just a soft code. What happens if it does fail?

1500 hemi with 8 speed. When the engine light is on it doesn’t go into eco mode but mileage doesn’t change

That’s the transmission thermal bypass valve.

The 3 way coolant valve is mounted on the passenger frame rail below the air filter housing.

As for OP, it’s a somewhat common failure, there was a PCM update for the errors but it rarely fixed it. More than likely you need a new 3-way valve.

those 3 way valves fail all the time, i also vote for a replacement, order one and a jug of coolant and do it on the drive way piece of cake.

But I agree with you, they are crap and require changed more than they should. Order a new one and replace. Make sure you get the correct coolant as it not green or orange

You can also clamp off the hoses so you loose only a tiny bit of coolant during the swap out the 3-way valve.

I just switched mine out Saturday. Paid $65 off of ebay takes about 20 mins to switch out. Clamped my hoses and lost minimal coolant. Mine was never throwing a code though, i just noticed it was leaking.
