In a recent report on vehicle ownership, AAA noted the cost of new vehicle ownership was almost $800.00 a month. Modifications of course would add to that figure but if people want to spend $$$ that is their decision. Practical people like me are not in that groove, I would rather leave my truck stock and go into the woods to haul out a cubic of firewood that I can sell for a few hundred and/or use to reduce heating bills substantially. It also reduces taxes up here in Canuckistan of 13% on fuel/heating sources which is a lot. A long time ago, the market use of trucks went from being work vehicles to being hobby items but there are still some of us who buy a truck not only for transportation but to also utilize as a money maker. I expect the ratio of me/us to them to be about 30/70 from my own personal observations. There are those driving new half ton trucks as "protection" as they and especially 2500 and 3500 units have more biomass and height that gives one a far better chance to walk away in the event of a collision with one of the newer light cars that are bought because of high gas mileage and that appeal to the enviro-extremists. A few days after buying my new truck, I drove to do an estimate for a newspaper editor, he came out to meet me and his first words were, "EARTH *****" in reference to what he considered a gas guzzling enemy of the globaloney crowd. I did tell him the cost of a funeral would buy a lot of gas and in the 14 years I have owned this truck, have noted more than a few collisions between full size trucks and "econo" small cars where the car driver was seriously injured or killed while the truck driver suffered "minor" injuries not requiring hospitalization.

In that context, lifters would probably make the truck safer as it would place the frame biomass on a contact course with light bodywork sheet metal/plastic econo cars are made of. Now saying this often angers the de-growther movement pushed by gubmit gas mileage droids who sacrificed the greater safety factor of heavier vehicles for their god of gas mileage. Makes no sense to and one final caveat. In many cases, the collisions I have noted involving eco cars and gas gulping trucks, the fault has been with the eco car operator. I could go into a spasm here of unidentified law enforcement surveys of their experiences with that which validate my views but will stop short. If people want to save money while exposing themselves to greater injury/death, that is their business, though it is not logical to me, having noted in the recent past a TOYota van running into the side of a tandem trailer carrying a huge yellow stump grinder and being totalled while it cost me only $400.00 to replace one axle. The bee bopper motoring down the city road at what I estimated as an excessive speed claimed in court that she saw the one ton green truck towing the trailer with the "YELLOW ELEPHANT" on it but not the trailer. My driver was issued a ticket as he allegedly "interfered" with the right of way of on going traffic but the judge negated the charge, the fine, and declared a "cooperative" mishap which resulted in also killing a huge increase in my business insurance. Nuff said.
