Ok you guys, I "AM" going to regear before I go to Arizona. Just driving around town and going to the lake taking the back road was a nice test for the Ram.

The back road had some very good winding roads with uphill climbs, the truck felt like **** ! LOL ...

So those of you who have regeared already, should I go with the 4.56s or 4.88s .. Remember it's only a 2wd, 5.7 and I'm on 37" Ridge Grapplers on 20x12 wheels ...

Any specific reason why 4.56 for the 8 speed ?
Effective gearing, but the 8 speed is so impressive in that regard that even with 3.21's in the 8 speed you'll have more more leverage with that than the 6 speed with 4.88's :), see calculation below, that's simply trans ratio X final drive

What trans do you have?

Love how your truck looks. Do you have a body lift on top of the 6in lift? Looks so tall. As for gears I cant compare the 4th gen gearing. My 2nd gen has 4.56 and I loved the change it made to the truck. My current truck has 3.21 and I kick my self for not holding out for a 3.92 cause I really dont wanna pay 2k+ for a gear change again lol. Is your truck delmonico red?

One thing people don't mention all that often, the lower you go, even though your truck performs stronger, the actual differential is weaker.

How do you keep her so clean lol and love how the sun can make it look like so many different colors. Mine is same colorView attachment 158430

I pressure wash her at least 2 times a week lol .. I only dry it with a waffle towel with some drying agent and throw some Meguiars ultimate paste wax ... Yeah .. sometimes in parking lots it looks a purplelish color and in the sun it looks very dark depending on the angle .. pretty bad ass color ...

To increase the ratio, you add teeth. The more teeth, the smaller they are. The smaller they are, the easier they are to strip or break.

I took my last truck's (F150) 8.8" diff from 3.55 to 4.10. I also had various other performance mods. My son decided to show off to his friends and grenaded it right in the high school parking lot.

Who knows how much it takes to break them? I'm just pointing out that they will be weaker and it's compounded by adding taller tires.

I see... but if it's necessary it's necessary to regear... thanks for the information

Sorry, didn't realize I wasn't in the HD thread. 5.13s are possible & available in a 2500. You are correct in saying 4.88s are the limit for a 1500.
I have not raised all the $$ yet (4X4 so twice the price) but the numbers have been run over and over. For my $ I am putting 5.13s in. The 6.4 has a sweet spot around 2k - 2.3k rpms and with the 0.625 6th gear in the trans, that's the gearing I need for the speeds I drive.
I am planning on pulling a TT back and forth across the country and 5.13s will keep me from going too fast. I need that. In 43 yrs of driving, I've never regretted running steep gears in cars or trucks. Best bang for the buck for torque multiplying!
Best of luck, whichever way you go. Ed.

IMO 4.56's will be plenty if you're coming from 3.21's...it'll be 42% more rpms than what you're currently working with with the 3.21's. Assuming those tires are more like 36.5", you're probably right around 1400 rpms at 70mph in 8th gear. Change to 4.56's and you'll be at 2000 rpms. Going to 4.88's just gets you another 100 rpms.
