Ok, I imagine that this topic has been talked about in length before but I haven't seen any posts (between a few forums) talking about this recently. SO, here's a couple questions I have.

I've seen quite a bit of talk referencing HO camshafts and 206-224 cams being of a large benefit to the 4.7 and really waking it up. Is there anyway to track down some of these cams anymore? Latest info I found was that dodge was No longer producing the HO cams and thus aftermarket companies no longer had new cams to work off of and stopped production. So is my only option for getting 206 cams to find a set of used cams from an HO motor and get those ground?

Longtube headers were something i've seen mentioned a handful of times but am having allot of trouble finding any for the 4.7. Are these still being produced? All i've been able to find are shorties. With that being said, if shorties are all there is. What do you think of the ones that are available?

Tuning, it appears that if I were to go with a set of 206 cams that I would need a custom tune (duh). SCT seems to be the crowd favorite for this, is there anyway to alter the program on the transmission while using an SCT tune for the engine? (from the research i've done the SCT system does not control the tranny)

08+ intake manifolds: From looking at AIRRAM.com's site they seem to think highly of changing out the intake manifold along with cams. Yet they dont mention the real benefits of doing so. I imagine that the newer intake mani has much larger ports and thus opens up the top end but does anyone have an idea of the potential power increase from such a mod?

Thanks,
Tom

I had my 06 Ram setup with catback dual exhuast, a magnaflow dual in/dual out muffler, and a K&N filter forever. Then I installed a Superchips on 91 setting, worst mistake ever for an 06 4.7.

This was with HO cams, 2008 intake, AirRam 4" intake, and a SCT Tune by me.

This is after probably the ultimate 4.7 mod, the 5.7 Hemi swap.

Or make this the ultimate, moded 5.7 Hemi

Finally if you want to make your 4.7 really run, give it the 1,200 lbs weight reduction, install 218/224 cams, JBA headers, 2 1/4" duals without cats, and viola. (Whats not apparant is there was a 21 hp Craftsman riding mower strapped in the bed in this video)

Welcome! not sure on your other questions but for the tune Ive heard a lot about Superchips, everyone here seems to like them. I think the 3865 allows transmission tuning but Im not sure if it will work with your year. bump for someone who might know the others...

Welcome! Talk to Duane our vendor 3rd Strike. He can not only get you all of the correct parts, but explain everything. And to the best of my knowledge there was never any long tubes made for the 4.7. I don't think there has ever been any dyno numbers posted from the manifolds to show if there is a gain.

Shorty headers might not show a good gain on a stock motor, but a HO cammed or better engine with the 08 intake, shows great gains, especially in the midrange seat of the pants and while towing.

Thanks for the quick replies and answers to my questions! I'm new to these body dodge's. I've had a 2nd gen 24v cummins in the past and loved it. Got a chance to upgrade again and chose my current Blue QCSB 1/2ton and love it. definitely a change in "toy" vehicles from what was my focus of playing with of my bmw.

First things that will be addressed is most likely lighting (headlights, fogs and HID's for both) along with tires (it needs new ones for the stockers) eventually plan to get larger wheels (thinking either a 20 or 22" STR10 reps in flat black). Then suspension (currently looking the Mcgauphy's 2"/4.5" kit). After thats all settled then go fast parts :). Depending on if I come across a good deal on any in the process or not, which the order could always be diverted for a good deal :)

I look forward in taking part in this forum more!

Tom

Cool, i'll keep that in mind.

Does anyone have any idea which vehicles came factory with HO motors so that way I can try and track down some HO cams.

Thanks,
Tom

I'm sure this has been asked before but if I wanted to swap out my 2003 4.7 motor to a newer 4.7 motor, how new could I go without having to do major computer swap as well?
