4WD Shake on Accel

You may have checked this already but I would do a once over on all the lug nuts make sure there torqued down.

As soon as it's warm enough, as in not -10˚F, I'm going to go over all the hardware related to the suspension and check torque.

The way the axels fit it kind of makes sense. There go in like a key with 3 locks, not sure what else to call them. Changing the angle of the axle could change the way the turn inside their slots.

So what are the option at 2.8" then? Can I get longer axels that will somehow correct this?

For the amount of times I hammer on it in 4wd to have it show up it only starts for me at around 25-30kmph and is gone by 65kmph. So for me I just don't hammer on it.. Slowly getting to speed it doesn't vibrate at all. Just when mashing the pedal.

Mine seems to do it whenever it's in the mood. I don't think mine is "normal" or it would do it the entire time it's in 4WD. It doesn't do it all the time, only about 80% of the time maybe. Doesn't matter if traction control is off or if I'm in tow/haul. Even tried manual shifting and no effect. Just most the time it does it and sometimes it don't. Also does it at about any speed and any RPM range.

I honestly think it's something to do with the computer, transfer case, or differential. If it did it all the time I'd buy the axel angle thing, but it doesn't.

Old thread but I ran into a similar issue with my ram and figured I would chime in.

2011 ram 1500 4x4 5.7 55k miles, stock I tested the truck prior to leveling and I could put it in 4H and hammer the throttle and it drove just as smooth as it did in 2 wheel. I could also make tight turns in 4 wheel without binding.

I installed bilsteins at 2.1 which perfectly leveled my truck. Drove great in 2 wheel but when I put it in 4 wheel,Under hard acceleration from a stop I was getting the bad wobble/shake that felt like the truck was going to fall apart and I also could barely make a turn into a driveway without binding and it wanting to wheel hop.

Took it to a shop and had the front end aligned,all front end components were good also. After alignment ....same issues.

Crawled under truck and noticed some play in both front cv axles (in and out play,a little side to side and quite a bit at the coupler where it meets the splines of the differential on both sides.

So I ordered new front cv axles .I was going to get new stub shafts also until I seen how expensive they were and figured I would wait to inspect the factory ones before I dropped that kind of money on something I might not need.

I took the old CV axles out and on both sides the axles looked great, I cut the boots open on one and looked inside and still brand new looking grease. BUT when you moved the axle around you could feel it didn't "feel right" at the outside hub side of the axles. Inspected stub shafts while apart and they had no play at all and the splines were like new.Installed new axles and took it for a test drive and the binding in 4x4 is gone. I can turn the wheel to full lock in both directions now in 4x4 without binding. BUT I did notice the front end shake was still there...not as bad but it was still present none the less. So I crawled back under the truck to check things out and I noticed the passenger side axle had came un clipped and slipped a 1/2" or so down the output spline ( I made sure it clicked into place during install even).

Today I went to the dealer and got a couple new retainer clips since new cv axles don't include them for whatever reason. I explained to the guy at the counter what had happened and he said its common on these trucks and on most cars the clips can be reused during an axle replacement but on these for whatever they lose their "spring".

So I jacked the front end up and backed off the outer hub nut,popped the upper ball joint and that gave me enough room to slip the cv off of the splines at the front diff. I took the old clip off and put the new one on and reassembled everything. After assembly I noticed much less play in the coupler that goes on the differential spline than previously and even on the drivers side with the other new cv axle.

Took it for a test drive and the "wobble/shake" is still present but not as bad as before. I think that if I replace the clip on the drivers side axle like I did on the passenger side that it will take the play out of that coupler aswell and eliminate or atleast reduce the front end wobble.

I just figured I would mention all of this incase you or others are still have issues and atleast something to check. Make sure that the axles haven't slipped on the splines at all and also it may be worth replacing the retainer clips after having seen first hand the difference in axle play from factory retainer clips vs. new ones and the reduction in front end wobble.

But I would assume getting ALL of the wobble to go away could only be accomplished by a front diff drop bracket (if someone would make one for our leveled trucks anyhow lol) as I am sure the CV angles do play a role.

Good information. I haven't had my CV axels out, so I'm curious what all this looks like. Will definitely check for slop in there though.

For what its worth...I was at the dealer today having a friend see if he could tweak some of my EVIC settings and since it was his first time hooking it up he checked for factory updates....there was a update that had something to do with shuddering in 4x4. I didn't have any issues and he was on his lunch break doing this on the side so we didn't get involved with it...but it might be something to look into

Zone does sell a diff drop bracket for our trucks leveled or at least they did
