Can somebody please tell me if this is correctly in the 2h position? It’s my first truck with 4x4 on it, the shifter was lose and I purchased the transfer case rod and connected it. I was shifting gears on it not realizing it was going to be stiff and hard to shift . So i did not know I wasn’t supposed to change gears in drive because every time I did it made a crackling noise and I would put it back in park and it would stop, it got to a point where I think I left it on neutral after and it wouldn’t move, till finally I put the transmission in neutral and shifted out to what I hope is the 2h position,it did make a loud noise like if it let go of something and shifted into 2wd mode, like when you have the emergency brake on and you let it lose that type of noise. I put it in drive and finally it moved,I test drove it and it went back and forth fine and shifted gears fine too. Just concerned that I may have damaged the transfer case,if it’s not in the right spot position for everyday driving.

Have you tried pulling it all the way back to 4H, then try to move it one position forward, then forward again, then all the way forward? You should feel it "snick" into place with little movement in the lever when it does, then when you move it again the lever will feel a bit looser until it finds the next position.

No I haven’t, I’m honestly scared too to move it again lol, I have no lights on and no check engine light, so I’m hoping everything is ok.So far it runs good as well,I was just trying to figure out if that’s the spot for 2h. I don’t wanna move it again and break something in my transfer case. I also forgot to mention while all that noise was going something in my exhaust cracked a little and was dripping something not sure what it was or if it’s a coincidence. I’m going to the muffler shop to replace that piece of pipe right before the muffler. But if I see it’s slipping or not running fully correct then I will go down to 4h and go up one more and see what happens.
