Hey guys, i found a really nice trans/transfer case out of a 2019 1500 with only 36K on it for 800$. I’ve been wanting to 8spd swap my 2013 4.7 as most of you know from my many threads on it, but would it be able to go from a 4x2 to a 4x4? Cost isn’t an issue as this truck is going to be modded to hell in a few months. I know it would need a new driveshaft, im already getting a new rear diff tho.

The frames are differant. If you had a complete rolled 4X4 it'd be easier to swap your cab/box etc. onto it then try to turn your 2X4 into a 4X4. The 4X4's use a strut front end, your 2X4 uses a coil spring front end.Stick with 8 speed swapping it and leave the rest alone.

Got it, thanks man. Might still pick up the 800$ trans/transfer case since the trans alone is worth over that and i’d be able to make a nice profit selling the T/C.

Just be forewarned that 4X4 8 speed isn't set up to bolt a drive shaft to.The 2 wheel drive 8 speed has a differant output shaft that'll accept a drive shaft flange, the 4X4's use a differant output shaft that allows the t-case collar to slide onto it. The output shafts can be changed but it entails completely disassembling the transmission, the labour involved would blow any savings you think you're getting by buying it.

Damn Wild one you know a lot about these 4gen drivetrains! Almost like you’ve put a ton of money into them from experience. LOL

It cost me a pile of money to learn a few things about the 8 speeds, :Big Laugh:.The first one was they aren't cheap to buy, second lesson was a poor transmission tune will cook them in short order, lol. Back before anybody new how to tune the transmission,we kept leaning on mine, till it got really upset about being leaned on that hard, lol. Tuners now are learning the limits of them, but back when we first started tuning mine, nobody knew anything about them or torque management.

Oh I know, I’ve read many of your posts. You’re the go to for the 8 speeds. Thank you for financing the pioneer effort.

The frames are the same. The coil bucket brackets are different and need to be modified to accept a coilover. The lower control arms need to be swapped to 4x4 style as well. Cutting and welding is required.

Totally doable but for the average guy not probable.

I will end up doing this at some point but here are some items needed.

8 speed with transfer case attached.
Front and rear driveshafts
Front diff.
Front axles
Front 4x4 spindles
Coilovers
Upper coilover mount (something like dirtking)
Alfaobd for changing bcm functions
Front swaybar endlinks ( maybe )

What in hell are you mumbling about the frames are the same, you on glue or something, lol. If they were the same, you wouldn't have to cut out spring pockets and weld in strut mounts,or coil over mounts to do it the way you're saying.Maybe go look in a parts book and check frame part numbers, they are not the same frame by any stretch of the imagination. Before you make a dumb statement like that, maybe think it over. The 4X4's also use a differant crossmember for the t-case. If you have a 2 wheel drive truck, leave it as a 2wheel drive,or else find yourself a wrecked 4X4 that doesn't have frame damage, and swap your body panels etc.,onto it's frame. Not often i disagree with you Red,but that's about as dumb a statement as i've seen you make.

Yea i want to see you find frame part numbers in a dealers parts book that say they are the same frame, lol. Not grumpy at all, just surprised at how dumb your comments are on this subject. I'm not a fan of anybody who posts up information that'll mislead somebody who might believe the misinformation.Have you actually put a 4X4 beside a 2X4 and looked at the front ends of the 2 frames, you'd be better off cutting the front of the frame off at about the cab and welding the 4X4 front frame section to the 2X4 frame, that way the front diff will actually bolt in,the 2X4 frames aren't set up to bolt the front diff into them.

TheEnder here's a used regular cab shortbox 4X4 frame if you still want to swap to a 4X4.

I’m good with a solidly RWD truck, was just curious is all. I live in california where the most off-roading i do is driving over potholes….

One frame 2013- 2018.

Different part numbers does not signify that how you put it "The frames are completely different" is false whwther you accept it or not. However they all supercede into one current frame to purchase for replacement.
Different sku's signify which cross member brackets go with which drive style and suspension system (which all can be converted)

If you claim I'm misleading them that's your fault on being misinformed. It's not rocket science it's a 4x4 swap.

Any fabricator can tackle this. Not sure what lens you're reading this through but carry on.

So in other words you got nothing except smoke dreams, lol. I'm still waiting for proof . Take a close look at your 2X4 frame, then look "real" close at the frame picture i posted above. Hell if you got enough money and access to a really good fabricator you can put a Hellephant on a skateboard,is it safe or wise "no",same theory you're proposing here. Quit trying to convince everybody you know what you're talking about, when clearly you don't.Now go find yourself a 4X4 and look it over close, including the front crossmember where a diff would bolt to
