This is a FYI. 2013 RAM 1500 5.7. Misfire on #7. Truck lost power and felt like it was in limpmode. 90K miles, one owner, always maintained. Turned out to be a failure of a MDS solenoid ( this controls the cylinder deactivation). Intake manifold had to come off. I replaced all 4 solenoids because taking off the intake manifold is a big job.
The codes from my ODB reader gave no clue about the actual cause but the shop was able to figure it out.

Since when did taking the intake manifold off become a "big job",if you can't remove it in well under an hour, you better turn in your man card.

That’s an unnecessary and jerky reply. Go watch the YouTube video on hemi intake manifold removal. Unless one is a skilled wrencher it’s not a quick and simple job.
You will find people posting about mystery misfires and my post is there as a helpful suggestion for those who might not have considered this unusual case.

I didn't have to watch any video's to remove the intake manifold,it's a pretty simple job,and if you couldn't figure out how to remove it with-out watching a video, you don't deserve a man card, lol.
Yes i've had a few off to port them.
Takes less time to R&R the intake then it does to change all 16 plugs

The biggest part of the plugs is pulling the inner fenders, I'm one of those vertically challenged people so ...... off with the front wheels, off with the inner fenders, I found for me, the ugliest coil was #8 rt rear, That back bolt on the coil is not nice for my old arthritic hands.
Manifold ain't all that bad, I didn't think.....

What do the parts people call those solenoids that are in the block under the intake. I've tried different words on rock auto and some dealer sites and they keep showing the solenoid controls cam gear

Thank you loopless I have been having a erratic misfire on #3 only happens when you ask for more fuel.Replaced everything from injector, camshaft sensor, plugs, coil etc.wasnt making sense of the cam and lifters cause the truck runs great until you press on fuel pedal than runs great after the misfire. did more research and was coming down to either the mds or vvt.was going to take to a shop to diagnose now as come to my wits end.lol thinking after reading your post I might just go replace the mds and while having intake off do vvt at the same time.

You know not everyone has the tool, shop or expertise to do this job.im very mechanically inclined was raised wrenching on vehicles since I was 9(was given my first car by my grandfather and told if I got it running was mine) and I'm new to the hemi world as I have always drove ford or chev.i watched the video myself as a pointer on what to do and thought big job.ill still tackle it myself but we should be encouraging people not telling them to get rud of their man card.
