Simple question.....

Thinking of trading in a ‘17 1500 with the 5.7 for a ‘19 power wagon so that’s obviously got the 6.4.

Are the new 6.4s exactly the same as the previous body style with 6.4? And do they get Hemi tick like the 5.7 does?

I want a solid truck that will reliably last me 10yrs and many miles and want to make sure there’s nothing fatal about a ‘19 PW.

Basically the same engine just bigger bore. And a different cam I Beleive. Don't hold me to that tho. They still get the hemi tick I thinks it's just a hemi thing across the board.

The 6.4 seems to be susceptible to the same potential issues as the 5.7. I don't think one would be any more reliable than the other, actually you'd probably come out ahead financially after 10 years in the 1500 with a 5.7 as opposed to the 6.4 if you don't need the extra capacity.

Way stronger block and a lot better heads on the 6.4's Brandon. The 6.4 truck engine is the one commonly referred to as the BGE block or Big Gas Engine, and is the same block used in the Hellcats/Demons and after 2017 in the 6.4 Scatpack cars, the heads also flow more on the BGE's in the trucks

Sad to hear they’re open to the same issue the 5.7s are.

Throw an aftermarket cam and lifters in it,and a set of long tube headers on it,not only will you pick up some power, but you've bypassed the 2 most common Hemi issues.

I don't think the lifter/cam issue is as wide spread as you would think. Does it happen in a few engines, sure does. In the majority of 5.7's, not even close.

Will it in my 16? We will see, however I do NOT follow the oil change indicator, but rather change the oil every 3-5000 miles - which for me is 3-4 times a year or after every trip.
