That big of a difference huh? What kind of mods do you have to need a custom tune? I think just getting rid of the deathflash on these 01s is a must for performance. OP is starting from square one, just depends on how much he wants to spend.

i want to see pics of your cars! Die hard mopar guy here too!

I have a pic of my 69 charger in my signature line, its packing the 440/727 combo with 3.23 gears with a suregrip!

Hope this worked, this is two of them. I grew up in Dayton, old Fairview HS. Then I had a 68 Roadrunner with the 426 Hemi and 4spd, and a red 68 Charger R/T

if you think tuner

think hemifever tuning with sct, had superchips and sold it for sct....what a difference between the 2
Flyin' Ryan is actually supposed to be better. Sean pulls punches with his ignition advance from what I hear.

oh geesh...

1. mopar m1 intake
2. 4.56 gears with locker
3. 2200 stall converter
4. upgraded valve body
5. aem brute force intake
6. custom dual exhaust (no muffler right now)
7. magnaflow hi flow cat with Y pipe
8. 7 (or 8) MM plug wires with autolite plugs (3923?)

those are just the performance mods and im sure im forgetting a few

basically everything but headers.

Ive done many other things to the truck, but has nothing to do with how it runs or drives (everything else just makes it look sweet :favorites13:)

I am guessing I don't have an intake issue, pretty smooth idle, no smoke, no burning oil at all. As for the superchips, what part number, model number would I look at for the 5.9ltr??

I can agree to the superchips vs SCT tuner. I had both and the SCT is much better overall. Granted got my SCT when Sean was selling them for cheaper prices. Dodge dude what do you mean by Sean pulling punches on ignition? Is Flyin' Ryan a whole lot better than Sean?

Really? That big of a deal to type your mods? Sorry to bug you. You do not have any heavy engine mods to support a custom tune in my opinion, just basic bolt-ons.

I bought the Dodge Flashpaq 3842. I got it for just under $300 online shipped. When I first got my truck, I thought for sure the plentum gasket was bad, but it wasnt. Truck had 105k original miles and was a ****. Tuner woke it up, like night and day. The SCT, like I said before is superior to the superchips, just depends on where your going with your truck.

Mine will just be on the street, just want it to respond a lot better than it does now. I am guessing there are 3 settings on it? For 87,89, 92 octane gas from what I can gather, if I do this guess I will find out which is best for gas mileage/performance. Anything is better than now. [unless I go with the 440 stroker or the 590ci Indy Hemi]

I don't see a TB on that list. :hidesbehindsofa:

From what I've *heard* Sean doesn't put as much timing and fueling into his tunes as he could and even his custom tunes are more generic than Ryan's.....BUT, Ryan tunes for each truck, so his are a little more exact.

I agree with the general consensus of going with SCT over superchips. I have a superchips because I snagged one on Amazon for bout $150 but I want an SCT (in fact I might get one with tax refund :naughty: ). Plus since I haven't done my plenum yet I figured the superchips was probably safer/keep me from being too stupid.

For plenum fix, either modding the stock kegger, installing a Mopar M1 (if you can find one), or installing a Hughes F1 would also be a good mod. It will open up your usable rpm range which the stock keggers can't really do without some cutting.

Edit: My plenum will be getting done either in late March or early April when I'm done with my training days. Not sure whether I'll go aftermarket route for manifold or modded stock.

If you'll hold onto it and won't screw me over I'll buy your SC off you. lol

yep bolt on stuff, wont do any motor work to it b.c the dang thing is so reliable the way it is

the trucks have power, I just did bolt ons to take advantage of whats there

its kinda a waste to do motor work to a truck like out unless your going to race it.

Im not a race truck driver, just a guy who enjoys driving a 2nd gen and wants to get the most out of it without spending big dollars.

If you want a gas truck with big power, buy a mid 70s dodge with a 383 or 440....then stick your money into that...

These trucks are too reliable in stock form to be messing with internals

Bolt ons did everything i wanted them to do, and im very happy

In all honesty, looking back at everything i did....all the mods i did to my truck there is only 2 that i would really do again

1. m1 intake
2. 4.56 gears with the limited slip locker

all the others helped, dont get me wrong. But those 2 did the most for the money on my truck. Think if i was smart and saved all that money i could have stuck it into my charger.....or house, or retirement etc...

oh to be young....Live and you learn. :banghead: But i have a sweet truck, i get compliments all the time, its fun to drive, its 100% reliable. Its what i wanted from day 1. :happy107::peace::rockit::favorites37:

Yep, me too. Funner daily driver. Yes, 3 tunes, 91 octane, 87 octane, and a towing tune. I am running the 87 tune because its a daily driver. I did try the 91 and could not tell a difference, also its an older truck, dont want to push it to hard...yet

Then I might go with Flyin' Ryan then instead of Sean if that's the case. I'm already using Sean's custom tunes. I'll talk to Ryan then

PM me for Ryan's full name. I don't want to put his real name out on the internet without his approval. :laughing1:
