Hey guys I have a quick question I have a 04 ram hemi and over the weekend
I was trying to get around this slow moving Ford. So we were at a stop light and I figured I would get in front of this car before it goes back to a single lane again. When the light turned green I punched it the other car took off five second later my truck kicked it and moved quickly off the line. Now I am assuming that cannot be normal what would cause my engine to do that? It runs fine any other time and when I am not at a dead stop and gun it works fine I just noticed it that one weekend. I normally don't gun it cause of the gas prices so not sure if it is just a one time occurrence or what. Is that a sign my throttle body needs cleaning or replacement? Thank you in advance for you help!!

Did the engine rev for those 5 seconds, or did it not do anything at all? If your throttle body is gummed up, it is possible that it got stuck and did not open...this is unlikely though. If the motor was revving, but you were not moving, then you may have some serious transmission problems to address.

Wondering myself if the truck reved up or if it didnt do anything but idle for 5 secs then kicked in. Have you tried it again by chance to see what it does?

was your radio turned up? I have had it happen where I hit the gas but not moved only to realize my tires were spinning. Just curious if it would be a combo between the fly-by-wire throttle response and a little bit of tire spinning.

This sort of happened on my '90 Honda CRX (first car). I was 16, and I black electrical taped the CAI to the butterfly valve, because I was too cheap and dumb to try to procure a rubber coupler/clamp... yeah yeah I know now.

Anyways, mid-summer, the tape melted, got sucked into the valve and would every once in a while cause a delay in the throttle that I couldn't figure out.

Wasn't until one day the throttle stay open and I couldn't stop the car, without taking it out of gear and turning it off. I realized what was happening.

So... Possibly the throttle body valve sticking open? Not 100% or anything, just throwing ideas out there.

The engine raced for a few seconds and moved slowly but then it took off

LOL no my radio wasn't turned up, I haven't tried it again perhaps on my way home tonight I will try it again. The only thing that stops me from doing all that is gas prices, only do it on a need to bases. I will try it again on my way home and pay closer attention at the time I was doing it was worried I wouldn't make the lane merger. Will let you all know.

if you hit it as hard as your making it sound and the engine revved up, there is a good possibility that the tires could have been spinning.

Was it a full 5 seconds or what appeared to be 5 seconds? I know stock, my 05 would take a moment to move after hitting the gas from a dead stop. Now it wasn't a full 5 seconds but it was long enough to notice it wasn't going right away.

That happens to me all the time when my rear tires are on the painted lines at stop lights, especially when it's wet out because the tires don't make any noise when they spin.

Perhaps you all are right about the spinning tires, I wasn't really paying attention as I was to busy concentrating on making the merge from 2 lanes to 1. I tried it again 2-3 time from a dead stop yesterday after work and it seems to take off normal. But thank you all for responding much appreciated!!! I will try again today after work and pay attention to see if the tires are spinning as well....thank you again all!!

It's those oh **** I need to move moments where you are not thinking about how hard you are hitting the gas peddle that you usually do it (at least from my experience). Would still pull the throttle body and see if it is gummed up on the back side and give out a good cleaning to be on the safe side if it has never been done before.

Just an update on this, I spent last evening trying to recreate the issue but the only thing I got out of it was going from a full tank to needing a refill. I guess it was a simple wheel spin but I appreciate all your help and suggestions. I still plan to check/clean the throttle body as you suggested as well as check the trans fluids. Thank you all again!!

Just an update on this I cleaned out the throttle body and even put in a new K and N reusable air filter...wow I didn't know the air filter would improve my gas mileage, either that or it was cleaning the throttle body. At any rate I normally travel local routes when
I go to this gym to play b-ball at. It is about 40 miles away and before I go I always fill up and travel local roads, I normally average about 12 mpg but after the cleaning and new filter that jump up to 15.5 mpg so wow!!! going to take it on the expressway and see what I get. Thanks guys!!!! all your suggestion really improved my gas mileage...and oh by the way I punched it at the light just for the heck of it. Dunno if its all in my head but it is faster off the line....thank you again!!!!
