545RFE 2wd to 4wd

I asked a related question on a different forum which leads me to this question: Is it really this easy to convert a 2wd 545RFE transmission to 4wd by simply replacing the “Rear Extension Housing” with a “Transfer Case Adapter”?

I ask this question due to the lockup converter (2007 1500 4wd 5.7L) failing to lockup correctly. I prefer to find a donor trans to rebuild. This will make for less down time for my truck.

Thank you HemiLonestar. This really expands my universe of potential donors. As an aside, not having to be concerned with case differences, output shaft length, and spline count makes for the good life. Plug-n-play, woohoo!

Unfortunately it means you're still stuck with the RFE trans.

For the clueless, a skunk can be the perfect cat. At over 200k, I’m quite content with my RFE skunk. And, I do thank you for the assist.
