6.1 Stroker Build/Swap

Anyone know if I should use the high pressure spring or high volume spring in the melling oil pump? Didn't want that to get lost in the post.

The 6.1 stroker is officially in the garage getting final prep for installation.
Turns out it's at 419 cubic inches and 10.3:1 compression Manley Stroker kit.
Valve job
Bronze guides
OEM 6.1 heads and valves
Comp stage 3 cam (likely switching to the stage 2 HRT for the low end grunt)
Blueprinted etc.
Going to paint it
Spacers for the 6.4 manifold should be here tomorrow.
Installing the brackets for the accessories relocation tomorrow (hopefully).
Went with 650cc Deatsshwerks injectors and 340lph pump.
HPTuners MPVI3
Only tuning the engine and conservatively at that, for now (Make the RFE last a bit longer)

Hopefully this fall I can get the 8hp swap done and my ECU flashed to an 05 and turn it up.

End of next year, should be running 12psi turbo

Glad to see you know you have to replace the trans. You can't just "flash the PCM" to a different year, they are physically different PCM's. You'll need to find an actual 2005 PCM, then you'll be covered NA. Those year PCM's aren't great for boost tuning, depending on how far you wanna turn it up. A standalone may be in your future.

Trans definitely needs to be addressed.
Hemituner and Jay Greene mentioned they can now flash the PCM to a manual/ 2005 that allows for better trans tuning and engine tuning. Seem to be some top dogs in the industry.

My rod bolts are 8740 so not going higher than 750 at the crank.

This will definitely require the standalone.
I'm considering MS3 gold and fonse performance tuning.
That's maybe 2+ years from now.
Truck won't be racking up miles so not worried about that side of things.

Being honest, I'll probably stop at the 8HP swap and better PCM situation.

Got the intake spacers in today and a few things mocked up. Intake should clear the firewall, gotta measure tomorrow. Got some DIMS and off to get some hardware for the accessories brackets.
EGR block off for the head is done
Returning the Deatshwerks injectors and getting some 525 FIC's.

Tomorrow:
*Intake EGR block off plate
*Finish bracket set up with new hardware.
*Install EGR block off on head and I take
*Install Water Pump

Correct. The 2008 ecu communicates using CAN-bus wiring/protocol while the 2004 uses PCI bus J1850.

If you want, we can flash the 2004 as a 2005 (still uses PCI bus but, apparently, has more tuning options).

Just to be clear, your 2004 truck does NOT have a separate TCM, correct?

Hahaha yes! Not sure if it is just yet, I posted in my 8HP thread looking for the pin out. All of the ones I have found point to integration for that year.

You can put a ZF in a carb'd car (it's been done). Since the TCM is integrated into the valve body, so long as you have the SG harness all you need aside from the three connectors (one to the pcs unit, one to the trans, and one to the shifter), is 12v constant, 12v switched, ground, brake switch input, tps, rpm, and reverse light output. It's a ridiculously easy swap electric wise. The hard parts are usually the most challenging. This is an old Ramcharger with it.

There is currently a 2004 QC running around Canadia with a 6.1 stroker hooked to an 8HP70. He originally used the OEM PCM before eventually switching to a Holley standalone.

Got her dropped in today. Had some hiccups with pulling the read file so ECU will be in Friday with the start up file.

Tomorrow I'll be getting everything bolted in and the intake on.

My sons 14th bday is Friday and he's been a huge help on this with learning and helping out wherever he can. So needless to say he's stoked for the start up

Right...I've seen how popular the 8hp swaps are in just about every make and model of vehicle, BUT they're being run on standalone's.
Wasn't saying that it can't be done, but I'd think you'd need a maxxecu or similar stand-alone

@GeauxinUp As per Russell from Sound German and @HemiLonestar you can make it work behind a john deere if you wanted to, just need some inputs which come with the kit, I attached an image for reference.

Tuning is the tricky part.

Hemifever and Hotwire and I'm sure others have flash configurations that allow a bit more tuning. They are still sub optimal but usable. If your running big power or boost you need to wire in a 2 step for torque management or your going to blow the trans. If your running that power your probably standalone anyway

Finally get her in and fired up... sort of.
Start up tune is struggling to get her to start up and stay running. Had some kinks worked out with the HPTuners device. My tuner should be back on it tomorrow. I'll get a video up when she's running a bit better, hopefully in the next couple of days
