Guys, we are talking spark plugs not removing an engine, you can do it. Maybe need a good plan for back plugs, sometimes laying over engine. However, plugs are not lasting 100k miles on these engines, seen plenty of photo's on this. I guess if you never thrown a code you are ok, but many many guys say after a plug change the engine feels way more responsive. All you need is one of these for the hemi plug...

Put anti sieze back and possible di electric grease make sure not to get that on top of plug, put on ceremic part and you push it in. Maybe the plugs will last longer if we protect them from elements.

Do us a favor, take a pic of the plugs condition, thanks Burla

Did my last truck, 2008 5.4, F150. you know the one's that break in half, in the aluminum head. "Only" broke 6, bought the special extractor tool. It took about 1 hour for the first, total 3hour job. Other than my artificial hip, and three bad discs, is the 6.4 Hemi that bad?
Maybe replace at 50K.

Golden man card sent.

The plugs in the Hemi is actually a 30,000 mile plug. I have all data for my 6.4 and its an NGK part number for the plug. If you search the plug on NGK’s website it says 30,000 miles.

Dont believe everything your manual tells you.

I should have been checking in on this site more often. I replaced mine regularly when we had the 5.7 But after upgrading to the Power Wagon, I was like "Sweet 100k"

I'm almost at 90k. So, I'm ordering a set.

Im not scared. I did my 08 5.4 triton with 100k plugs. Changed them at 60k and they were junk. My 6.4 just turned 40k and changing them soon. All your extensions and a universal joint are must have tools with these new trucks.

does anyone have input as to high quality spark plugs that make for the best replacement?

The best thing for it is seriously the NGK replacement that i posted. Unless you are crazy modded out. That is an excellent plug.

Asked the parts guy at my local dealer. He said there's a 30,000 mile set of normal plugs, and a 100,000 miles set of platinum (or whatever, i forget) plugs.

And said it runs best on 89 octane, but unless you're towing heavy **** uphill, regular fuel is fine.

I did mine at 100k and it wasn’t any big deal at all! Put factory 100k plugs back in

View attachment 165173

Wait a second

Your factory installed plug was a Bosch...?

Im done guessing what is in everyones truck

That is even more reason to check them at 30,000 in my opinion. You dont know what is on your truck.

By book says 100,000. My part number in my book AND on alldata is an NGK plug number. And NGK says my plug is 30,000

So im checking at 30,000

Not to revive thread... Is the 2019 6.4 different than the 04-18? i dont see cords coming off the coil pack going to the lower set. Also do they use the same plug? (Dealer gave me a diesel manual)

digging up an old thread here but where did you get that ngk part number? per NGK, the correct replacement plug for the 6.4 is 96779, which they show has a 100k service interval.

OP here - just had this done and this is what they put in:

https://www.allmoparparts.com/sku/sp138239ac.html

The whole thing cost $740 but I got a 10% coupon off the dealer's website so it was $676. Looks like they gouged me for double the cost for the plugs ($23/ea and online they are $12/ea). Labor was about $370 (minus 10%).

I see from reading my original post that I was quoted $400. I must have misunderstood that didn't include the parts or something.

It's kind of a ridiculous amount of money to pay but it's a write-off through my company so that's roughly another 25% off.

So looking at my 6.4L everything looks easily accessible (I have the hydro boost in my truck so no vacuum booster in the way on the drives side). Compared to the 05 F250 5.4 3V I just got rid (I changed plugs on that truck 3 times in 9 years, never broke a plug but 4+ hours each time to do the change) this engine looks easy with plenty of room. That being said I have a 2014 2500 Heavy duty, my brothers 2016 1500 with the 5.7 looks much more complex, but again compared to a 3v Ford Triton engine :D

I can do just about anything mechanical or electronic but at my age with back issues I’ve learned the hard way there’s certain jobs I shouldn’t do. I can work all day underneath or around the perimeter but leaning over engine bay not so much. Ditto for folding myself up and working under the dash.

As much as I dislike letting others work on my vehicles I’d rather pay a mechanic than a doctor. Forgetting that has cost me days of R&R when I could barely hobble around.

When the time comes I’ll gladly pay someone with a better back to get R done. Glad to hear the plug swap on these doesn’t seem problematic.

I have changed the plugs on the later car and pickup Hemi's. Cars are easier. On pickups I start from the front, removing everything then install from the rear foreword. Yeah, it sucks to get old.....
