Hammerhead, the hydroboost pump is tied into the brake system. How do I know you ask, cause when the dealer changed the pump and lines they sprayed brake fluid all over the engine and left it for me to clean.

Geeezzzz dealers are getting worse and worse. Leaving crap all over your engine bay is really dumbing it down.
Thanks for the reply and I hope you get this issue worked out.

The gas 2500/3500 do not have hydroboost brakes.

OP, reach under the dash and put your hand on the steering shaft when you rev up the engine. Sound from the powder steering pump can travel up the steering shaft. I wonder if you have a power steering pump going out.

All 4th gen gas 2500's are vacuum boost, not hydro boost. Your picture is of a vacuum boost.

copied out of the owners manual.

Hydraulic Brake Assist — 2500/3500 Models Only
(Except Power Wagon)
The brake system power assist is provided by a hydroboost
unit which shares fluid with the power steering
system. You may experience some clicking or hissing
noises from the hydro-boost system during hard braking
conditions.

Mine has some hissing. Its normal. Not bad but slight. I change power steering fluid once a year. Keep it clean and she will last a long time

I’m sorry, I know what a vacuum system looks like, and it doesn’t have lines running to the power steering pump. This is most definitely a hydroboost brake system.

The part for my truck, says Hydro Boost, looks just like the picture I posted. Hmmmmm....

The whistling noise seems to be a common noise that no one can figure out. Next time is doing it push down on the shifter and see if it goes away.

The Cummins trucks are hydroboost, the Hemi trucks are vacuum boost. All gas 2500/3500 have been vacuum boost since 03. Online Mopar parts dealers are often incorrect and shouldn't be used to research part numbers.

Look at the picture I posted, that is a hydro boost master cylinder, on my truck. Which has a Hemi. The brake booster on my truck is not anywhere near big enough for it to be vacuum, not to mention there is not a single vacuum line going to it. The master cylinder does however have two lines attached to the power steering pump, which, based on the principal of how a hydroboost system works, would make my truck hydroboost brakes.

Anyone else want to take a picture of their hydroboost brake set up on their 2500/3500 please. Especially a Cummins guy, then I can compare parts.

Have you had a chance to pull the fuse? I drove mine yesterday, albeit it’s a Tradesman, and I couldn’t hear anything that might have resembled the sound you are hearing.

Have you tried pulling fuses for the power steering? Not sure I’d want to with it attached to the brakes, but it could be a bearing.

Does the truck make the noise in 4x4 Hi?

Does it do it in or out of manual shift mode?

Could it be a bearing in the front axle?

Reloader, the mechanic at the ram dealer said it was a hydroboost pump and his buddy working next to him said only the diesels had that set up. The mechanic popped the hood of my truck and pointed out the hydroboost pump to his coworker. The coworker said he stood corrected and didn’t know gassers had it too. I’m not a mechanic but only relaying what was said and replaced. The work order from that warranty fix said it was a hydroboost pump with lines. I didn’t have a chance to pull the fuse due to work and weather...I will do it today. The power steering pump was also replaced along with the idler pulley so I’m gunna skip over pulling that fuse. I also still hear it when it’s in 4x4 and manual shifting.

Thanks, hmmm I’m wondering if it’s a bearing. Maybe the front driveshaft? Idk. I’m curious to find out what it ends up being. Have you looked into the Lemon Law in your state? It must have been at the dealership for quite some time by now for them to try and diagnose.

AFM, I have enough to start the lemon law process. I really like the truck aside from the current issue but I’ll be damned if I’m going to listen to this for the rest of the time I own this thing. I want to give corporate an opportunity to make good before I make my next move.

Yep! I 100% understand. Love my truck, have you tried to drive an equivalent truck on their lot to see if it does the same thing maybe?

Yup, drove several equivalent trucks and heard no whistling noise. The service manager told me he heard the noise and it was normal, I asked the service manager to go in the lot and drive the same truck and tell me if he hears it cause I didn’t. After he tested the trucks that he had in stock he said he was unable to hear it because the vehicles on the lot were so new that they had the normal new engine knock.
