I’m at wits end!! I have an ‘18 3500 crew with a 6.4 and 4.10’s with one issue no one seems to be able to fix. I’ve had the truck for 1 1/2 yrs and since I bought it there has been this annoying whistling/buzzing noise from the front cab that get louder with the rpm’s of the engine and when I step on/off the gas pedal. I had 3 dealers work on it, all three heard the issue, numerous different diagnoses and numerous failures. Idler pulley, hydroboost pump, hydroboost lines, alternator, and several other could be’s that weren’t. To me it sounds like a bad ground or noise canceling problem but all the dealers assured me it wasn’t. The last dealer told me to not worry since the truck isn’t throwing a code even though he heard and acknowledged it. I told him it wasn’t alright to have what sounds like a bee reviving in the dash. I started a case with FCA today but I fear that is going to be no win battle. Aside from that the truck runs good but I can’t take the noise! Has anybody had an issue similar? Thanks

Does your truck have the noise cancelling? I have the 2018 6.4 Crew in a 2500 and have heard nothing like that. I have a Tradesman so no frills and no noise canceling.

Does noise cancelling work through the radio? Take out the radio fuse and drive it?

What someone else said about the noise canceling might be your issue. In addition you might have a bad speaker that causing your issue. If you have the radio speed compensation on, it would mimic getting louder w the engine/ road

Just throwing this in there as it doesnt change with speed, but my AC fan sounds like a jet motor when on speed 2. It's really annoying.

Have you shut the radio off or muted it to see if the noise goes away?

I don't think the radios on these trucks ever really go off. The best you can do is just turn it down or mute it.

I agree with the others that it might be something audio related. My 2014 (with 8.4 Uconnect) has done some crazy things over the years. Never bad enough that I've had to take it in but certainly some funky behavior. Things like the radio volume going up/down on it's own, the screen glitching/freezing and things like that. If there's a way to pull the fuse to the whole system and still allow the truck to drive I'd give that a try.

thanks for all the advice. I’ll try pulling the radio fuse. So to answer the questions I have zero modifications done to the truck, it is bone stock. I turned off the speed compensator so that way I could see if it changed anything and it did not.I have muted the radio and the sound does not change I have also turned on and turned off every electrical item on my dashboard to include the AC and heater and nothing changed. It gets louder with the revving of the engine and there is some type of break in the whistling when I pump the brake pedal.

Without hearing the noise it's hard to tell, but your description sounds electrical to me. The noise varying with RPM and pausing when the brake lights come on sounds like a ground issue to me. Do you have an amplified system? If so, it could be a ground issue with the amp. Have you tried a new battery? The battery helps filter the remaining ac ripple that the rectifier leaves behind, and sometimes a bad battery can cause noise in the audio system. The alternator would be another place to look, but I believe you said that was already changed.

Hi Shield134,
We're happy to hear that you have opened a case with us. We understand how frustrating and inconvenient it may be to make multiple visits to different dealers. Please feel free to send us a private message if you have any questions regarding your current case with us.

Doesn’t seem to do it with the turning of the steering wheel. I’m going to try and pull the radio fuse Tomorrow when I get done work. The rep from FCA told me there was nothing really they could do that she could think of short of getting a 4th opinion from ANOTHER dealer. I guess that 3 dealers acknowledging an issue isn’t enough. I should be hearing from her by tomorrow but I fear that It’s a dead issue on their end by the way the phone conversation went. I’m doing more research on this problem than any of the dealers have done.

I had a similar issue with a whistling noise. It was from my exhaust, almost like it was restricted. Took it to the dealer they heard it and couldn't figure it out. Started a case and they basically told me they are aware of the issue but it doesn't effect the vehicle performance and nothing further can be done. So I had a custom exhaust done and no more whistling noise. I have 2016 2500 with the 6.4
