8.4 & Alpine system kill battery in an hour ?

Is it possiblu that listening to the radio with engine shut off for an hour or so would run down the battery to the point I needed a jump to start in a 2 year old Ram. Battery checked out fine at autozone after being jumped about 5 minutes before being check and was told its 100 % charged and did a load test and said it was fine . Connections look like new as does the whole truck. What are your thoughts . Autozone said the radio would do it but just seems odd to me . Wondering if I go to a 850cca AGM battery vs the OE 730 would help for one thing ?

sounds like the batt is weak but some times checks as good. you will find out on the very first ice cold day, when starting your truck, Question did they check your charging side of the alt. at auto zone

Yup they said the ALT is fine too. I think the battery is weak. I cant believe the radio would kill the battery that fast if the battery is good. I have it in my garage now and in a half hour with radio on voltage has dropped .82

EDIT: 1 hour now and Im down to 10.14 volts

I guess its time to get an Odyssey battery for the truck too.

Just saying the radio is on isn’t really a good indicator. Volume and type of music (heavy drums and bass) is a huge factor in how quick the battery will drain. If I was listening to Tool at moderate volume, I wouldn’t expect a typical car battery to last very long.

What radio do you have. It your truck is like mine 18 Laramie it isn’t jus the radio on I think even thing is on not to mention the 8.4 screen

beats me I know the build sheet said Nav capable . rear camera don't work unless its in reverse and climate control dont come on unless running don't know what else it has that could be on when not running . dropping 3 volts in an hour is alot and its been on that long before with no issue. Just started this this week . Volume was very low as we were BSing in the truck while having coffee the first and second time and today while timing it the volume as just loud enough so you could hear it when standing by the door with window open in the garage to see how long it would take to drop the voltage low enough to not be able to start it . which Id say was took about 45 minutes roughly. I have had it on for twice that before and started just fine

Change out the Battery before you get stuck on a freezing cold night and maybe up the cold cranking amps on the new one. well good luck ,they don't make things to last like they used make things. Also make sure the posts on the new batt. are in correct position when its installed otherwise the cables will be on the wrong side.

Autozone's site says the Odyssey 94R don't fit a 2017 Ram 1500. Odyssey's site says it does. Measurements are good , post location is correct and autozone's price is the best I found on it so I will order it and hope I don't end up with a "I told you" form them later . I will make it work !

Autozone's part fitment guide sounds like looking up parts on Amazon. I would trust the manufacturer's fitment guide before the one for an individual store. You probably could even fit the Odyssey 49-950 which is the one for the EcoDiesel, it has 950 CCA, 94 Ah battery and is about an inch longer.

Took the OE battery out and was told it's a 2013 battery in my 2017 truck. I guess that explains why it was giving me trouble .


EDIT: The new Battery cured my issue , well worth the money. Just bought a second one for my daughters 2014 RCSB before she has an issue
