So I picked up a 1997 Ram 2500 5.9 a few weeks ago and im pretty happy with it. 205k miles and it would appear to have seen reasonable maintence. The trans has a drain plug on it, obviously not stock. Im not sure if the trans has been replaced or not, the last owner had it from 199K-204K and is around 95 years old now. Old old dude.

My uncle recently found his new job at the head of Meyers plow sales for the commercial division of a local dealership. He told me he could get me a solid deal on a plow. I would use it for my driveway, a few neighbors, and...thats about it. I live in upstate ny, so we get some good snow every now and again but mostly moderate stuff. Could it handle it? Or is it a terrible idea? I want to get a long life out of this truck.

Also, I plan on changing every oil/fluid on the truck soon anyway (minus freon and the power steering which already got done with a new pitman shaft seal)

Sure you can put one on it. Plowing does take its toll on everything.

I say go for it as long as you take extra care not to get more slush in the floor than necessary and fluid film EVERYTHING. Otherwise it'll rot much quicker than it needs to.

Alright. Im still wary though. You think ill hurt any trans components or anything if I just keep it in 4L? probably not worth it to change gearing or something for more torque, right?

Beautiful rigs you've got, by the way.

I think you should be fine plowing what little you're doing. 4LO will be your friend for sure tho.

Thanks.
