Hey Guys,

I’m wanting to add Remote Start functionality to my 2012 Ram 1500 that has working Keyless Entry. I already swapped the Key FOB rubber with the one that has the “x2” button. I needed a new FOB rubber anyway, so planned ahead and went with that one.

From my research, it appears all 2009-2012 Rams came pre-wired for the Hood Ajar Sensor and actually go all the way back to Pin 11 on Connector C1 of the BCM. Apparently this wasn’t the case on 2013+ models. I need to confirm this, so where’s the BCM on the 2009-2012’s? Is it under the fusebox in the engine bay? It’s definitely not under the dash, like on 2013+ models. I see the hood ajar sensor plug dangling near the hood latch, so that’s a good sign.

If the Hood Ajar Sensor is actually pre-wired all the way, would all I need is a new Hood Latch that contains the sensor and plug it in? I read that a 1k ohm resistor on the sensor plug would also work as a bypass.

Anything additional needed to be configured on AlfaOBD? I have done the following already in preparation:

  • Remote Start Present: Set
  • Input #2 (B11): Hood Ajar
  • Reset WIN Configuration

Appreciate any and all help! Thanks in advance!

Regards,
Danny

From my understanding there is no BCM on the earlier Rams. Your truck wiring would be coming out of the C4 connector under the TIPM. And I recently learned you may have a wire in position 3 on the connector but it may terminate about 6” down the wire harness. I would first confirm you actually have the hood latch connector. If you do, then you should have the wiring needed. If you don’t then you are missing wiring.

Thanks for the reply. I for sure have the hood latch connector. It’s just dangling next to the horns.

What’s my next step?

Ok @DoughRat19, so following up on this. Attached is a picture of the plug that’s dangling by the hood latch and horns. I assume that’s the plug for the hood latch sensor.

I also pulled the TIPM and snapped a few pictures of Connector “C”. I have a wire in Pin 3, there’s no wire in Pin 4.

Thoughts?

Well remote start works! Wohoo! I talked with John Lance and he was able to help me out. I showed him the pictures and he said all looked good and my truck is pre-wired.

I created a small bypass harness with a built-in 1k ohm resistor and used that to ground one of the pins on the hood latch plug (the one closer to the red safety lock). Then I was missing an important part of the process which was after enabling all the settings in AlfaOBD, you have to go take the car for a short drive. After that was done, the remote start began to work without issues.

I won't be keeping the bypass harness I made, it was just to troubleshoot. I'll be buying an OEM Hood Latch with the sensor integrated into it to keep it as OEM as possible.

I suggest anyone looking to having this done, to contact John Lance on the FB Groups. He sells an custom hood safety switch and everything you need for like $50. I just wanted to opt for the OEM option for my truck.

Thats not the right connector under the TIPM in your pictures, should look like this. Since you have the hood latch connector you should have all the wiring.

@dannyloski , do you have a contact for this wiring kit? I'd like to purchase for my 2011? Or does anyone have a contact?
